Boring

To be clear, I am not going to a US University. However, I am going to THE best university in my country. According to my parents, it's difficulty is comparable to ivy league universities(it's lower rank comes from less funding and thus worser facilities), and they have graduated from an actual ivy league university.

I was aware that i would be attending a heavily study orientated university, not known for partying at all. That said, I did not expect that attending a top university would be this boring!! It's only orientation, with only a 1000 word essay due in two weeks, and people are still going straight home after the orientation at 3pm. Is this what it's like to attend a study orientated university? Will it be like this for my entire time? I would like some opinions from people who also attend heavily study orientated universities.

Although I am not sure of the culture of Universities outside of the US, I can assure you that orientation is definitely not indicative of your actual semester. Since orientation is so short, people aren’t really putting much emphasis on meeting others and trying to explore.

You will definitely find people once you start school who share the same interests as you and you will definitely try to find parties together and just hang out.

Just give it some time to meet people once you get to school for fall semester.

^Really? At my school orientation was ONLY about meeting others and exploring. And I go to one of the most selective colleges in the US, where students are stereotyped as socially awkward nerds. I know that Fresher’s weeks in many of the top unis in the UK are hugely social as well. From my experience with PhD students at many European unis, I would guess that the undergrads know how to have fun.
Maybe people at your school are just a little shy? Does your orientation have activities for you to have fun and get to know each other? Most of our orientation was about that, with us being introduced to the school as well as to each other. Even if your orientation turns out to not be that fun, I don’t think that’s awful. Many upperclassmen here now talk about how orientation is a lie. A lie we love, but a lie nonetheless. I think the school makes it that fun to make up for how hard schoolwork is during the normal semester.

My school is ranked pretty high for partying, but orientation was one of the most boring days ever. So don’t judge the expect the rest of the year to be the same.
