Since Harvard and MIT are considered to be No. 1 and No.1-a (or vice versa) among all institutions in the US (sorry Yale, Princenton, etc), I am curious how the other Boston area colleges and universities rank behind the Cambridge schools.

Where does Boston College rank? BU? Northeastern? Tufts? Wellesley? UMass/Boston? Emerson? Stone Hill? Babson? Simmon? You all get the idea.

Let me hear your opinions. I know you got 'em

There are dozens of colleges in the Boston area, many of whom even people who live in the area never heard of. This is probably how they are usually ranked:

Wellesley
tufts
BC, Brandeis
BU
Northeastern, Wheaton
Stonehill, UMass-Boston, Suffolk U, Regis
Emmanuel, Simmons, Wheelock, Lesley, etc.
Wentworth, Mt. Ida, Pine Manor, Lasell, etc.

There are also a slew of specialty colleges that are hard to rank...Babson and Bentley for business;Boston Architectural College; Berklee, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory; Emerson for performing arts;

Colleges of the Fenway are worth exploring.
They share resources with each other, specialize in various areas of study
Besides all the fine schools right in Boston there are several in the surrounding area.

Khipper: tourguide has a pretty good handle on the "rankings" but it really depends on what you want to do. I went to MIT and my wife went to Simmons (yes we met at a fraternity mixer). Simmons has a very strong physical therapy program - Northeastern and BU are the only other ones on that list that have an accredited PT program.

My experience with Wellesley would agree - largely rich women getting MRS degree or a really good liberal arts degree to go on to MBA, law school or Med school. Think Hillary.
