tl;dr: Looking for suggestions for science research internships/programs near Boston for summer 2018!
Hi everyone, I’m getting ready to start looking for and applying to science research internships for next summer. I’d prefer to stay around Boston, and my summer break is a bit short (mid/late June to late August, so can’t do anything that requires starting in May/early June). I have a preference for biology but wouldn’t mind taking on chemistry, physics, and/or engineering.
I should be a reasonably competitive applicant for any program. I interned at Harvard last summer (should have letter of rec from a professor) and have done research at local state/community colleges. Top of my class, 1500+ SAT as a sophomore, leader of (non-STEM) ECs, awards at state science fairs, programming knowledge, etc. I’m also in a Title I district, where it’s uncommon for students to be doing independent research.
RSI is my top choice. I’m also thinking of Broad Summer Scholars Program and Boston University RISE Internship. NIH Summer Internship Program sounds interesting, but obviously not in the area and would take up my entire break (with its 8 week minimum duration). I could always do an independent (i.e. not affiliated with a program) internship like I did last summer, but it’d be great to be part of a community of like-minded peers.
What are some other programs I should consider?
Edit: I’m currently a junior, by the way!
