So like some of you, I got accepted to BC under EA. I’ve always thought of Boston College as having high prestige, but I have been hearing some stuff from other sources that Boston University had more prestige 10 years go. However, BC is rated 35, and BU is rated like 57.

Both colleges are spending close to $2 Billion on making their schools better, and I was wondering,

Does Boston College has a lot of prestige, and namesake. I want to go to a college where there will be a strong alumni network, and i mention my school, and people are like “ooo thats a good school”!,

BC carries more prestige than BU, at least on the west coast. and, bc of the camaraderie at BC, there is a very strong alumni network. Even people here who would rather attend Berkeley or UCLA believe in the power and dignity that is Boston College.

lol yes I believe BC has more prestige, but a lot of people mistake the two. For example, I told my friend I applied to BC and how I probably wouldn't get in because it's so difficult to get in.

Her response?

"What are you talking about??? You should totally get in. BU is the one that's more difficult to get in."

And I think she still thinks that too...even with 10 minutes worth of arguing...

Boston College's prestige is growing throughout the US. BC's prestige lies is more on the east and west coast. BU has more prestige overseas, but I think thats about it.

Oh BC for sure. It took me 5 minutes to do my BU application without a thought about it, but I agonized for two weeks over the wording of my BC application: "would BC prefer 'Key Club President' or 'President of Key Club'."

Prestige is one thing, but will you be happy at either school?
BC retention rate:
Percent of students who return for sophomore year: 96%

BU retention rate:
Percent of students who return for sophomore year: 91%

It seems to me that BU students either really like the place or hate and are looking to transfer. The school that BC receives the most transfer applications from each year is...BU, followed by NYU. I remember one subway ride back to campus after BC lost to BU in an important hockey game, BU students were chanting, "overrated," "Beagle," and our reply was, "Safety School!" Ha ha. I'm surprised that I got out of that alive.

In light of prestige- BC wins hands down. Because BU is not need blind and they have a whole college devoted to full pay students who are not really htat smart (College of General Studies) but whose tuition dollars can fund stuff, BU has (and deserves) the reputation of being a school for really spoiled, dim-witted rich kids.
My fiance went to BU and hated it but stayed because of a full ride. BU does have en engineering school and a fine arts schools which BC does not have. They also have a school of communications, but of my 4 friends who were in that school who graduated in May 07, none have jobs...and one was first in his class.
