Boston College Chances!

Hey everyone, I applied ED to Duke and was rejected, so now I'm looking into applying RD to BC and maybe Georgetown and UNC. I'd love to have an idea of my chances.

SAT: Around an 1820 superscored, but my ACT is much higher so I never tried to raise my score

ACT: 30

Reading: 33
English: 34
Science: 24
Math: 28
Writing: 8

GPA: 4.1 W, 3.7 UW

Senior Schedule: Dual Enrollment Anatomy, AP Government, AP Literature, Pre Calc Honors, Spanish IV Honors, Religion(required), AP Physics

In the past I have also taken AP Art History, AP Literature, and APUSH. I go to a small Catholic school so we don't have as many AP classes as other schools. All the classes I have taken, though, with the exclusion of our required religion courses have been honors courses. We also don't rank, but I know I would be at least in the top 15-20% if I had to guess.

Extracurriculars:

-4 years Girl's Varsity Lacrosse
-Ambassador Club: we are selected by our teachers to help showcase the school at events like Open House
-Mayor's Youth Corps: a service and leadership group under the Mayor; you must go through an application and interview process and only 40 students from the whole city are selected. We participate in many service projects throughout the city and work on developing our leadership skills
-Over 120 hours of community service
-National Honor Society, Beta Club, Rho Kappa, and National English Honor Society

I have also had a part-time job since the fall of my sophomore year. I work about 8 hours a week during the school year, and 25-30 hours a week over the summer.

Do I have a chance, or am I just kidding myself??

bumpy bump

Early Decision would make it a match, but right now its a high match.

Please chance back!

BC may like a higher score; but your ECs are good.

Thank you both so much for the input!! I took the ACT again this December and I’m waiting to get my scores back. I’m hoping my science score goes up because I think it really brings down my composite.

Anyone else have an opinion on my chances?

bump bump!

BC: Match

What are your safeties?

I’ve already been accepted to Florida State and Auburn and invited to both of their Honors Colleges, so I have good safeties. Do you really think I’m a match for BC?

If you look at previous years’ acceptance threads, you will see plenty of people who got in with stats roughly equivalent to yours.

That makes me feel really good, thank you everyone for chancing me. I know I just need to right a really good supplement essay and hope for the best. Any other opinions? Any BC students out there?

You apparently like colleges which are good academically and have decent sports as well.
Have you considered Villanova, Miami of Ohio, & Holy Cross?

I’ll chance you for all 3.

Miami U (OH): Safety
Holy Cross: Match
Villanova: Low match (Villanova waitlists people without apparent reason but it also admits many people from the waitlist)

Yes, a college with a good balance between academics and sports is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m not very interested in any of the schools you listed, but I really appreciate your suggestions. I’ve also considered applying to Georgetown and UNC, but I’m afraid of applying to too many reaches.

Match for BC.

Your a Match.

If you are interested in a catholic school that mixes athletics are academics. And would get you a ton of merit aid look at Benedictine College. Not Benedictine Unvierstiy.

Match- BC looks at a lot more than grades- community service is important. They do super score the ACT, so you may even have a higher ACT score when they look. My son’s highest ACT was 30, but superscore was 32. He got in EA, and I also think that BC’s essays are what can make you shine.

Did your son attend BC, or did he just get accepted this year?

UPDATE: December ACT scores came out today. My composite score remained the same, but some of my scores on individual sections improved which could help for any schools that super score the ACT

Composite: 30
English: 33
Math: 26
Reading 29
Science: 30

Which leaves my highest scores in each section as:

English: 34
Math: 28
Reading: 33
Science: 30

When I use those scores to come up with a new composite it comes out to a 31.25.

If BC super scores, would this help at all?

Just a question for anyone familiar with the admissions process.

Last night I wanted to spend every last second going over and making sure my BC essay is perfect. I went to submit it at 11:30 at night, 30 minutes before the deadline, and the Common App website was being incredibly slow. It didn’t end up fully uploading until a few minutes after midnight.

I know on BC’s website they stress how important deadlines are. On the Common App website it has the date I submitted my website listed as 1/2/13 and I’m worried this will look bad to the admissions officer.

Does anyone know if this will hurt my chances?

CLM- he just got accepted. As far as your submission- I’d call the admissions office and let them know. BC superscores the ACT.
