What I meant was where are you searching for roommates? When my son logs into agora, he doesn’t have that option.

Great analysis- thank you. I am anxiously waiting to hear from BC as I am on the wait list too- any idea when they should start to pull from the wait list? Will it be via email or a phone call? Any updated info you would have would be appreciated. Thank you

How many do you think accepted so far? Also do you think the recent events in Boston will effect the number of applicants to attend?

@emotup
You can search for roommates under “My Reslife” Tab which leads to the housing application. There is a section in the housing application that says “Roommate Requests.” If you go to this section, then select “browse matching roommates” there is a list of all the girls (or in your case boys) that have started their housing application/paid the deposit.

Shhsel: Thanks!

Jencourt: I believe that they should start sending wait list acceptances after May 7. How? don’t know maybe mail like for regular acceptances? Really don’t know. I don’t think that the Boston incident will affect attendance. About how many accepted so far, well I really really can’t say but the FB group doesn’t look good. Only 1390 out of 7000 have joined the group. That is not to say that definitely this is the number of students that have made deposits. But normally if you are going to a school, you immediately want to start bonding and making friends with people. I am sure that not everyone that is going is in the group but for 7000 having received acceptances, 1390 is low…good for waitlisters I guess?!jajajj
Emotup: when your son does his housing application, could he find out how many boys have accepted. So far as of today, a female student higher up in the thread mentioned that 660 girls had deposited and were making housing arrangements. If this student could post this information up, that would be very very useful…see if waitlister have hope!

@petreavolubilis: If I were BC admission official, I would accept you from your analytical skills and reasoning. I were told from someone who works at BC that there were 7900 acceptance letters sent out. Good Luck to all who are on waitlist and really want to go to BC !

Petreavolubilis-
How exactly will they begin pulling from the wait list- is it ranked? Based on grades/scores and/or recommendations? I do not believe it is random? I assume legacy that are wait listed have an edge? And what do you attribute the lower acceptance to? If your analysis based on facebook is correct-
And are you a student or do you work in guidance?

Have you taken AP Stats? :)

btw: According to financial reports, FB is starting to be a lot less popular.

My S was on the wait list at BC, but after visiting Boston last weekend, he decided it wasn’t the school for him. Do we need to notify the school or would it be sufficient to just decline if he receives a phone call? I also was wondering that since he applied to a large number of schools and was offered quite a few scholarships (vice-presidents/vice-chancellors scholarships), do we need to call admissions to officially decline their offers, or is it assumed that since it is now after the 5/1 deadline, that he doesn’t plan on attending?

It’d be best to go on the agora portal and formally withdraw the application.

BC will selectively pull from the wait-list to fill holes in the demographics for those who already accepted.

For example, if the male/female ratio of those who accepted is off BC’s target goal, it might use the wait-list (by favoring the underrepresented gender) to help achieve their target goal. Or maybe they have too many CSOM acceptances and not enough for A&S. Or even maybe not enough of a certain minority.

They have their “mosaic” for what they want to see in the makeup of the incoming class, and the wait-list will be used to help get there.

You should contact BC and let them know immediately it’s the right thing to do.

Newton kid: Thanks! If 7900 acceptances were made and if a 27% yield , BC would be 117 short. And if the yield is even lower than that (which may be the case), BC will be even shorter…better for waitlisters!

Jencourt: Don’t know how waitlisters will be pulled out…wish I would know…Why the low yield? Maybe I am wrong and many accepted students are not in the FB group, many have decided to attend other institutions for whatever reasons (Ivys?) and maybe because of $$$ reasons.

Bluebayou: jjajaja no I have not taken AP Statistics.

Vhnqqja & Emotup: Could you both post up # of deposited students by gender? That would be very useful and valuable information!

Collegetimesfour: You should let BC know that you are not interested in remaining in its waitlist…and you should decline all other acceptances and financial aid offers from other institutions…it is the correct thing to do. In fact, many schools are asking you to do this in order for them to find out who are their biggest competitors.

BTW, I am neither a student nor work in Guidance. My D has been waitlisted at BC and it is her first choice. She is like many of you, a very good student and all of this has bummed her out. She hardly ever enters here because she says it affects her so I do it for her.

Is it true that if you are pulled from the wait list they do not offer any financial aid? Also is it more difficult to get into the Business school? CSOM? I applied to BC Business and am on the wait list.

I believe BC offers FA to all accepted students regardless of whether or not they had been accepted through wait list.

You can get financial aid if you qualify for it. As for whether or not it’s more difficult to get off the waitlist for one school over another, that depends on the number of accepted students that deposited at each one.

Correct.

Also correct.

Does anyone know if it is more difficult to get into the business school at BC? I applied as a business major at BC and am on the waitlst

Another factor to throw in here–students who were accepted to BC, paid the deposit, are potential roommates on Agora but then are accepted to their dream school off of THAT school’s waitlist—(the summer (spring) “melt”), affecting BC’s yield and potentially necessitating more potential pulling from the BC waitlist. Again good news for BC waitlisters.

That’s great! This wait is making me really anxious.
