Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Common App: 10/10. Wrote about my struggle with IBD. Made sure to emphasize that it wasn’t an attempt for pity, and I think it came off really well. It made all my teachers emotional, so I think I did a good job.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
(Didn’t get to read teacher/counselor recs, but will assume)
Teacher Rec #1: 10/10. Asked my Calculus AB/BC/3 teacher to write it. I’ve known him for 3 years, including time spent in FCA, so I hope the letter was awesome.
Teacher Rec #2: 10/10. Asked my AP Language and Composition teacher to write it. She definitely liked me and was very supportive throughout the whole process, so I assume her letter was very kind.
Counselor Rec: 10/10. Got to know her pretty well through being a guidance aid, and she seemed to like me.
Additional Rec (if used): 10/10 Asked my youth minister to write it. I did get to read this one, and it was phenomenal. I think it showed my dedication to religion extremely well.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Finance
State (if domestic applicant): Maryland
School Type: Public (~1400 Students)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: ~$100k-$120k
Hooks (legacy, URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection

Strengths: EC’s, course rigor, GPA
Weaknesses: SAT (Not awful, but definitely could’ve been higher)
Why you think you were waitlisted: Probably EC’s and GPA
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: Northeastern
Waiting on: Notre Dame, UPenn, Georgetown, Villanova, Maryland, and Wake Forest.

General Comments: Sorta bummed that I didn’t get accepted to my second choice school, as I’d love to go there if my number 1 denies me. I didn’t show much interest in the school though, so a waitlist doesn’t surprise me. But, waitlist is better than denial, so I guess I’ll play it by ear. Congratulations to all those accepted!

Common App Essay: I talked about how my design was chosen for a Veteran’s Memorial in my area, culminating in a 600-person attendance for the unveiling and a Congressional Medal of Honor speaker. I talk about how it came about through my desire to use my art to impact the community.

Reflection: This sucks. I got into Villanova, which is good, but BC is the second highest acceptance rate school on my list. Really disappointed in this outcome. I thought being waitlisted at Uchicago was a good sign but I guess not, seems like everyone got waitlisted there. Back to being pessimistic about the rest of the schools.
Times like this make me really wish test scores mattered as much as GPA.

I usually do not comment on college confidential because I feel like sometimes it can be a toxic environment. I usually use it to find good prep books. I got into Boston College, my Sat scores were a 1670, my gpa a 3.9. and a rank of 13 out of 250 students. SAT scores are not everything and you don’t have to do a million things to get a college to notice you. Honestly, just be yourself, the only in schools clubs I’m a part of is Drama and I’m also part of the marching band. I’m also a three season athlete as well. At first I was worried about my SAT scores, but I realized those scores do not define me as a person, nor does it define my work ethic and how I perceive the world. I’m not saying that you don’t have to work hard, you do, but sometimes you have to take a moment and breathe. Do what you love, not what you think colleges will love.I just wanted to give my two cents.
