Accepted to: University of Southern California (presidential scholarship finalist), Northeastern, Ohio State University, obviously Boston College
Waiting on: University of Pennsylvania, Brown, Tufts, Johns Hopkins, GWU, American

General Comments :
Please don’t spend too much time on this website comparing yourself to other students. Not a single person here will be able to determine your acceptance, deferral, or rejection from a school, and the process truly is holistic. Unfortunately all you can do is submit your best application and wait until decisions come out, doing anything else will only stress you, and I know this from being a student who used to panic over reading the stats of other applicants.

I am excited to have been accepted and I can’t wait to see what other options will appear in the next few months.

Overall I was pretty disappointed but it was expected since my unweighted GPA is low and my essays were probably not the most sparkly. However, i did think that my unique major and my accomplishments in that field alongside my huge improvements would get me in but I guess not  But they were pretty polite in the rejection letter so I don’t hate the school in any way

Accepted to: Florida State, UCF, FIU, USF, UMinnesota Twin Cities
Rejected from: Georgia tech
Waitlisted: Tulane
Awaiting decision from: Emory, BostonU, NYU, Baylor, UMiami, Fordham, Vanderbilt (I know I should stop dreaming but whatever)

IB (place score in parentheses): 41 predicted
Senior Year Course Load: HL History, English Lit, Psychology, SL Math, Chem, Spanish A Lang and Lit
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Scholar? Not sure if that counts

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Played tennis for about 10 years + varsity tennis at my old school, Second City improv, volunteered at Article 19 (freedom of speech organization) CREA (helping underprivileged female microentrepeneurs in Mexico) editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, founded, edited and wrote satirical newsletter, philosophy club, read a lot
Job/Work Experience:
Volunteer/Community Service: Article 19 (6 hours a week, two years), CREA (hard to say)
Summer Activities: Went to a seminar on youth leadership, volunteered at a refuge for south american immigrants, went to ghana for a service trip
Essays: Pretty good. Tried to find a general theme for most of my colleges and just apply it (talked about reading - passionate, genuine, etc. 9/10). Common app talked about moving back to Mexico City after my parents’ divorce - pretty heartfelt, hope they were able to see that. 8.5/10
Teacher Recommendations: Great. Haven’t known them for very long (large turnover rate at my school) but one talked about how I genuinely like to learn and about our various philosophical conversations (9/10), the other about how I am an abstract thinker 8/10.
Counselor Rec: Amazing (I think). He really likes me, we have lots of conversations about current events and literature. 10/10
Additional Rec: College couselor called it “a pearl of a letter” (he’s kind of unpredictable, so I’m just crossing my fingers that it was all right). Written by an administrator who’s known my family for a long time. 10/10
Interview: N/A

State/Country: International (Mexico)
School Type: British international
Ethnicity: Latino with american citizenship (but as white as sliced bread)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Not sure
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

Reflection
Strengths: Good test scores (relatively), good essays, extracurriculars, recommendations. Tried to project myself as a high-impact writer, probably helped to specialize myself
Weaknesses: GPA dropped when I moved, but picked it back up again in 11 and 12
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: The coin landed on tails
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Waiting on Middlebury, Pomona, Williams, Amherst, Yale, Princeton, Brown, a couple of safeties
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Pick your schools well, don’t waste your time writing essays, make sure you demonstrate a lot of interest (finish your essays early, then request an interview before they’re at capacity - it can only help). BC was a safety for me, but I still put moderate effort into the essays - you don’t want to get rejected because your essay was terrible, particularly from a safety.

Essays: 8, My first essay was really good but the supplemental essay was ok
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 9, this recommendation is from my english teacher and I know she spent a lot of time on it so it’s probably really detailed. She helped me with my application essay and she was probably really positive
Teacher Rec #2: 10, my math teacher wrote this LOR and I know she really likes me, especially since I got a 5 on the AP test, and it was probably glowing
Counselor Rec: 10, my counselor said she put in a lot of effort on this and it was probably glowing
Additional Rec: I requested a letter of rec from my boss but he never sent it and I had to delete the request on common app, idk if this had an negative impact on not hearing back about the honors program

Essays: I would say 9/10. I thought they were very well-written since I spent a whole month constantly changing the essays.
Teacher Recommendation: 10/10 for one of them and 9/10 for the other. Both were great but the other one was written by my physics teacher who could not really write a cohesive and grammatically correct essay. The content was all there though.
Counselor Rec: Didn’t read it but probably really generic. 5/10
