Boston College Class of 2025 -- Regular Decision

@Kaypanau The number from the Net Price Calculator is what you can expect to pay, not your FAFSA EFC. In the past, the admissions office has said their Net Price Calculator is accurate. If you have questions about that, call the financial aid office.

@evergreen5 thanks for your information. Will do

Congrats. I hope the same happens to me lol. People from my school who got in are posting everywhere and it’s making me sad lol

I know the feeling. I had to wait until May to get my great news!! it was long and torture, but in hindsight worth the wait. Don’t forget send LOCI and extra LOR.

Yes and congrats again. My buddy got deferred as well it would be awesome to both get in. My addition LOR is on its way and I’m trying to make my LOCI really stand out!

Hey guys! I’m a current freshman at BC studying Econ in MCAS. Lemme know if you have any questions!

I got in RD last year with a 3.67 UW and 4.92 weighted. Took all Honors/APs. 7 APs with 5s in Macro Micro Bio Psych and Chinese. 4s in Chem and BC Calc. SAT superscore was a 1470. SAT subject: 800 Math II and 760 Chem. ECs were more sports focused: varsity rowing (1 scholastic national title and 4 regional titles, went to Youth Nats), powerlifting captain (2nd at nationals) (wrote my common app on advocating for female lifters) Math tutor, science tutor, orchestra concertmaster (first chair violin). Oldest of three so first to go to college in US. I’m atheist and didn’t have a hint about religion in any part of my app.

I talked to the admissions officer who admitted me this semester and he said BC likes “nice” ppl although idk what that really means. Basically he mentioned admitting me because I was a hardcore athlete but also a musician but also family oriented and a leader (I focused a lot about my different sides in my essays).

Hope this helps!

Thanks @entoacout. What’s going on in the spring semester at BC? Has the communication been good about Covid related adjustments?

BC’s covid policy has been pretty solid. The past semester they’ve kept the testing to about once per week for most students and the positivity rate was usually always less than 0.5%. Communication has been great but just a little slow sometimes like we didn’t find out abt what thanksgiving break was gonna be like until a week before it started.
Spring semester is starting Jan 28 I think and they’re taking away our spring break and some other small holidays to prevent ppl from going home and coming back again (out of state students).

what happens if a student is positive? Have they been taking good care of those kids? How long do they stay in quarantine? I thought I saw portables on a tennis court where kids have to stay. Doesn’t seem ideal in the cold winter of Boston.

No no I don’t think that’s true. I had a runny nose for a day this semester and they send any symptomatic or + students to Hotel Boston which is five minutes from campus. They have a BC car drive you there. You bring two weeks worth of stuff but if you test negative you’re let out the next day. They bring you food (that you order from an app) and you get your own room which is paid by BC (no extra costs). Aside from having to be isolated it’s honestly better treatment than being in my dorm all day haha.

My older D 3rdyear northeastern they do the same. Remove the student for 2 weeks. NEU is testing every other day.

Is BC more holistic in their review or do you need to be above a certain threshold in GPA and test scores?

Great question. We are Instate, and very difficult for applicants. My experience looking at our high performing district as a whole,
acceptances over the last 5 years from our district has usually 3-4 acceptances per class. Not all high GPA kids get in. Legacy and sports are big. And then 1 or 2 other acceptances. Out of state may be different.

Got it. Is demonstrated interest a factor also? I did a tour right before COVID hit, but that’s it.

My personal N of 1 take would be:

Pre-Covid visiting would be included in demonstrated interest. My take during Covid times is that campus visits are being treated like test Scores. If you got one great but they likely know vast majority of kids couldn’t get a tour so likely a tour doesn’t separate you out.

I do think Demonstrated interest is valued by BC, again just my take. So reaching out where appropriate or attending on line registered sessions, if they track that is helpful at any school that tracks or emphasizes that. Idk where BC is during Covid in their evaluation of a candidate based on demonstrated interest.

Does anyone know specifically when the Gabelli finalists will be announced? Sometime this week I hope.

They say they do not count demonstrated interest. They specifically called that out when we toured. I have a hard time believing that though as I think most schools (except maybe the tippy tops) are concerned with their yield for this class and showing interest has to help.

My daughter applied RD. Hasn’t been able to visit but she has a cousin who graduated in '20 and had a great experience, so we’ve heard good things. The SCOIR scattergram looks good (75%), but who knows how things play out in a test-optional world?

D21 just received an update to her portal. She was accepted RD into BC (CSM) and is a Gabelli finalist. They have a virtual week for finalists this year between Feb 15-19 that they are required to attend. Does anyone have suggestions on how to prepare for the interviews, what to expect during the week and so on?
