deferred with a 32 ACT (33 Composite) and a TON of extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Kinda bummed out about it
33 super score**
Most of you guys have above average stats… Im applying to BC RD and Im getting really nervous
Deferred with a 3.76 UW GPA 4.36 W GPA, 33 ACT. Also a rigorous course schedule, strong essays, and good ECs. Doing everything I can to get accepted! But I also got accepted to Villanova so I’m excited about that! Good luck to everyone!
Hey club we never wanted to be in, but are! Deferred 1400/1600 SAT, 4.29 W GPA, 5’s on AP exams,
NHS, National Science Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Varsity Tennis, Swimming and Fencing, 4 year award winning mock trial participant, play 3 instruments, volunteer trip to Jamaica twice, summer job since I was 15, study abroad in Spain received college credit. Not sure what else I could have done. I am throwing up the white flag. I have three small colleges that have offered me crazy money. I think that I will make the most of those opportunities. This whole acceptance thing is like a game, and it makes me sad to see everyone stressed and upset. We are all amazing students.
What proportion of deferred applicants get in?
i got deferred with a 29 act and 4.13 uw… i’m probably the lowest applicant haha. i read a whole bunch of blog posts on websites about what to do if deferred… send in first semester grades, write a letter. i applied to the morrissey college of arts and sciences, from massachusetts.
@misschoding i know right? it’s making me so nervous seeing how so many above standards got deferred
Deferred with a 2060 SAT and 3.97 GPA BC is my number 1 so I’m bummed but I’m really praying for regular decision. I’m a part of student government, student council, NHS, 4 years spring track and captain this year, 3 years cross country and captain this yead, and 3 years winter track and captain this year, volunteered at a nursing home for the past 3 years, soccer coach to a youth girls team for three season, have had a job for about a year now. Really praying for regular decision - good luck everyone!
Dear @sungjong : I need to paint a real picture for you similar to what I have previously written. If you are deferred from the EA round, you are now in the regular decision pool with an expected new set of 20,000-22,000 applications. These are all fresh applicants gunning for somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000 acceptances in the RD round. So, expect the acceptance rate to be around 28%. In the EA round, acceptances are extended historically to about 20-22% of the pool. So, your conclusion should be that the RD pool is similarly competitive to the EA round and in some cases, moreso.
@vlindo idk but I think an assumption of around 30-35% accepted is solid
Dear vminkook : At this point with a deferral, your first course of action with a 29 ACT is NOT to be thinking about Boston College, but rather the institutions where you are a match and getting those applications completed for the RD round. As I have written, the deferral road is one filled with potholes and you must - repeat must - be ready with your other plans immediately.
good luck to everyone! let’s make our second chance count
Dear vlindo and mabdel3487 : Historically, the acceptance/deferral/rejection ratio for the EA round has been 20%/60%/20% - each year, those numbers can, and will, vary slightly. Your 30% acceptance number from the EA round is very high.
@vminkook Yeah Oh well, gotta write a really good essay now!
@scottj Boston college reported 2700 of their applicants were deferred which is around 30%
I would not depend on previous years to calculate your chances of acceptance in the RD round; this year, there have been exponentially more deferrals than last year.
Deferred 30ACT 28/205 9 AP’S 3.9 GPA. Class treasurer, treasurer of NHS, varsity athlete 4 years captain Swnior year. Scholar athlete all four years etc…
Was the average truly 2150 for SAT? That’s higher than Cornell’s average. If that’s the case then I don’t even know what to think about this process.
It seems like the EA is becoming more exclusive than it’s been in the past. Some really well deserving candidates are getting deferred I can’t imagine how much better qualified you have to be. It’s a shame because they are discouraging some applicants who would enhance their institutions. Makes you question all the hard work, effort and sacrifice over the years.
