Boston College EA 2021 Thread

^ you sound super impressive and bc is missing out on a great student @gudetama22, i had a similar experience with notre dame this week so I feel you pain

Does anyone know when financial aid comes out?

Has there been a group chat created yet?

Deferred. Kinda upset and very nervous because BC was the easiest to get into of my next 5 schools Im applying to.
4.66 GPA
30 ACT
Lots of church (catholic and Protestant) volunteer work including VBS leader, church choir, CCD teacher; president of band, 11 year Girl Scout, VP of french club, part of a suicide awareness group that won a national business plan competition, first chair flute, Harvard summer band… and more activities that I couldn’t fit in
Also a ton of awards I couldn’t fit in
Great recs, 9 APs, all other classes are honors, 5 on APUSH and Lang, 4 on APES

@erh0812 Me too I’m in the same boat…

Nice you were accepted with a 27 act as my son who had a 33 was outright rejected. Tough to be a high achieving male these days.

@radoo1 I may have gotten a 27 on the act but my sat scores are pretty solid as are my gpa, ECs, essay, and recommendations. I consider myself to be high achieving as well  only took the act once for haha

Anyone know typically when deferrals hear back? Do decisions come in waves like rolling admission? Curious

Deferrals hear back with regular decision applicants. Last year, regular decisions were released starting at around 5pm on March 17th.

Thank you! @Colleen8

Ugh I can’t wait until March

4.2 GPA , 33 act , 3 varsity sports.

4.2 GPA, 3 varsity sports, owner of own small business.

1580 SAT 4.8 GPA accepted

Does anyone know how to check for financial aid. I logged into the Agora portal, but under “My Services” I can’t find my financial aid.

Does anyone know the typical acceptance rate for deferrals?

Deffered!

Conditional financial aid will not be announced until at least lateJanuary if you submitted by Nov. 16th deadline…

Essays (rating 1-10, details): My personal statement was a 9/10. I spent a few months perfecting it and it accurately portrayed who I am as a person… something that you wouldn’t get from my transcript and resume. My why BC essay was so-so I give it a 7/10…

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: AP US History and AP European History teacher. Writes stellar letter of recommendations 10/10
Teacher Rec #2: My swim coach and Virtual Enterprise coach. He knows me well but his letter of rec was a wildcard and I wasn’t able to read it… 7/10
Counselor Rec: My counselor doesn’t know me that well so I am sure it was just a “She’s a good student and does lots of stuff” generic type essay
Additional Rec: None
Interview: None

Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Intended Major: Communications
State (if domestic applicant): California
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Large (4,000+) and extremely diverse public school
Ethnicity: Caucasian

Reflection

Strengths: Abundance of extracurriculars, essays
Weaknesses: Test scores… I am genuinely a crappy test taker.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Honestly, I feel like my essays could’ve been stronger…
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was accepted to the University of Alabama Honors Program (back up school). I applied to UChicago, Cornell, Syracuse, Elon, Wake Forest, USC, and American University and currently are waiting to hear back from them.

General Comments: Boston College wasn’t and isn’t my first choice but that didn’t lessen the sting of the rejection at all. I am still a little disappointed because its a great University and I would be happy to go there. I decided to post this because every thing I’ve read on this thread has been acceptances and deferrals. Good students don’t always get accepted everywhere!! Good luck to everyone and congratulations if you were accepted!!

Accepted
Arts & Science, 35ACT, 3.9UW/4.4 W, strong ECs, great Recs.
