Essays (subject and responses): My common app essay was about my connection to sailing as a metaphor for how I think. My Supplemental essay was about a book for a convocation about jesuit ideals. I go to a catholic school and have read many books that fit this category but I picked Mountains beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder and talked about Paul Farmer.

Teacher Recs: My AP Chemistry teacher who taught me for two years and loved me by the end. Should be very strong.
Counselor Rec: Was my precalculus teacher the year before and taught me dance years before that. She knows me inside and outside the classroom. should also be strong.
Applied on (EA?): Early Application.

Too much information…we are not the admissions commitee.

posting your stats is standard procedure belasco. i remember reading the EA thread and seeing the stats of kids who got in when i was a sophmore to see what i could improve on in my own resume.

Accepted with a 3.85 UW GPA (4.15 W) and a 2160 SAT 33 ACT! So excited!

Accepted in WI! Got my letter today but I noticed my Agora Portal changed last night.

When can we expect to hear about Presidential Scholars?

@titan007 their website says that they mailed out letters today to the people who will be invited for an interview!

What is the presidential scholarship based on?

Thanks, tennis. Hoping to hear soon!

Me too! I got into the honors program, and it would be great to attend but the cost is rather daunting to see on paper lol. Do you think they look at superscores for presidential scholar candidates?

I’m hoping not, actually. My ACT is only a 33 and 34 super scored, which I feel is a tad low for presidential scholars. I have a very holistic, Jesuity app which I’m hoping gets me invited for the weekend. Agreed about money, though. 60 grand is hard to swallow for any school

Dear Damond3 : By all means, please refer to the Boston College web site for details on the Presidential Scholarship program, Boston College’s only merit based program. Each year, approximately 60 applicants to the school, most from the EA round, are invited to the Presidential Scholars weekend - interviews and a variety of other observational techniques are employed to determine the accepted Presidential Scholars. In the end, approximately 15 students from the 60 will be offered these scholarships which includes full tuition.

The Presidential Scholars are often a focus of Boston College’s student press pieces - perhaps too often at the expense of other achievements taking place on the ground at the University. It has always been my view that Boston College would do better by increasing the merit scholarship pool four-fold offering each of the top 60 candidates a 1/4 rebate on tuition. You can read the University’s perspective on the Presidential program on their web site.
