mine was also in my junk mail
hi all!
I applied ea to a&s for political science.
Do we know why they are discontinuing the honors program?
The letter they wrote about it says that they no longer need the program to attract highly talented applicants, or something like that. I think someone posted a link to the letter earlier in this thread. My daughter goes to BC and she said it was just A&S that discontinued it…not CSOM.
And note, you can still do departmental honors.
It was a small program to begin with. And I wonder if all the kids now coming in with a bunch of AP credits, particularly English and History, has diminished the need (in the eyes of the matriculants).
Maybe…but BC doesn’t give credit for AP’s…I think you can waive out of a class but you still have to take the 120 credits. They are stringent with that.
correct, you can waive out of Core classes and take more electives. And my point was that someone coming in with say, AP English and AP History and then took Honors courses would be getting no curriculum credit for the AP’s (since Honors courses include Writing). I know that was a consideration for my D, plus she wanted to participate in PULSE. (highly recommended, if anyone is reading.)
But just my speculation.
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has information on the BC full ride scholarship, like selection criteria, application process, etc. I know its highly competitive so I’m definitely not expecting anything but would be nice to have some more info!
@skico2018 you don’t have to fill out any additional paperwork. They just use your application, as far as I know, and will contact you if you will be given the opportunity to apply/interview for it. I think they do the interviews in January, but not sure. And you may have had to apply EA, but I’m not sure about that. If you google Gabelli Presidential Scholarship Boston College you may be able to find more info. Good luck!!
@skico2018 here’s the link that explains the program:
@skico2018 Same here. I would love the full ride scholarship but am definitely not expecting anything.
Does anyone have any more information about it? Is there a cutoff for stats to be considered? I know you had to apply Early Action, which I did. If you are invited to the Scholar’s event that’s held in the beginning of next year, are you notified with your acceptance or afterwards?
The information available about it on BC’s website is pretty vague.
Also only about two more weeks to go until decisions are released! I can hardly wait, good luck everyone :-SS
@lrose00 I think you are notified within a few days of your acceptance. But I’m not sure. There are no stats or cutoffs but it is very selective. I’m assuming kids that are otherwise Ivy bound but would consider a full tuition ride at BC instead. My daughter got into an Ivy (Dartmouth) and didn’t get Gabelli, so there you go.
Would anyone happen to know if financial aid awards are included in the acceptance letter?
Acceptances come out in 12 days so exciting!!
I know I’m so eager!! @Barcelona97531
What time are decisions released?
I’ve heard 5:00 pm for other colleges, so I’d say between 5 and 7 at night
Gabelli scholarship is full tuition, not full ride.
I applied EA to CSOM, but due to its competitiveness I’m expecting a deferral.
So is BC actually more selective with EA?
