Boston College Early Decision. Class of 2025

@evergreen5 , would be interested to hear your thoughts on their learnings! Also I am intrigued, @privatebanker, about your thoughts on applications being pulled forward from ED2 to ED1. personally I am thinking we might see an increase in app numbers across both rounds as kids are looking for more certainty than usual

Reported admitted score averages, although hard to compare to anything prior to ED:

Class of 2022, restricted EA avg admitted 1453 and 33, overall enrolled 1392 and 32

Class of 2023, unrestricted EA avg admitted 1478 and 34, overall enrolled 1412 and 32

Class of 2024, ED1 average admitted not reported; overall average admitted 1457 and 34 (I canā€™t find an average enrolled published, only ranges, though it might be available in the new factbook in Jan)

Class of 2025, ED1 avg admitted 1443 and 33

(Hmm, if I donā€™t skip a line, I canā€™t have separate lines at allā€¦ and italics donā€™t work)

Intersting. If they had 200 more applicants and they took 40 percent. That explains a big piece of thr higher number. The rest could be a combination of key learnings and quality. Perhaps they didnā€™t like dipping into to wl as much - usually itā€™s a pretty small number. Almost nothing the past few years until last year. With covid uncertainty perhaps they are planning to have less uncertainty into June. Itā€™s just a guess

@evergreen5 thanks for sharing these stats, not surprising to see a small drop in scores given people taking fewer tests overall. I was though a bit surprised to see the stats reported by @2025student03 that only 42% of ED1 admits had test scores. I would have expected the ratio to be the other way around, i.e. maybe two-thirds with scores, one-third without. Curious to see how many applicants in total submitted test scores?

Iā€™m wondering how the ED acceptances break up by school. Does anyone know if they try to distribute the ED acceptances so it is even across the schools? Or could there be very few spots fit CSON or CSOM in RD, compared to MCAS?

Any word on how many applicants submitted scores? If it was only 25% of pool who submitted 42% of total admits is a high ratio (not saying itā€™s that lowā€¦but would be surprised if itā€™s over 50%). I expected average scores to go up since kids can choose not to submit if theyā€™re on the lower end of spectrum, though not a significant decrease. Iā€™m also guessing thatā€™s why so many more are submitting apps.
Good luck to all!

Two people from NJ were just accepted!! Theyā€™re handing out in batches

good luck everyone. Our D applied RD but super curious how many kids here get in TO. If thatā€™s you, let us know and give a few details on your other stats if you donā€™t mind!

I got deferred with a 3.74uw and 3.91w and 34 act. Iā€™m so upset. Jealous of you all.

Deferment isnā€™t bad, just a delay. MyD21 is applying ED2 so it is interesting reading these posts. Best wishes to you. What part of the country are you in?

My son was accepted to CSOM. 34 ACT and 4.15 GPA (w). Good luck to everyone and Iā€™m confident a number of these deferrals will be acceptances at the end. Hang in there.

Stats:
I had a 3.8 UW GPA, but with an upwards trending curve.
1450 SAT

Strong ECs:
two internships, non-profit founder, DECA president, member of 2 sports teams (track and football), participated in 3 other clubs, and 250 volunteer hours

Pretty good LORā€™s and pretty good essays imo.
Hope that helps everyone, seeing otherā€™s stats helped me in the process.

Congrats to all those accepted! Does anyone have advice for deferrals? BC is unequivocal first choice BUT need to be realistic, too. Thank you for any insight!

ā€œDoes anyone have advice for deferrals?ā€

I donā€™t know what % of deferred students ultimately get into BC, but as a general rule, if you have been deferred and have an ED2 school that you would be happy to attend, the smart play is to apply to that ED2 school. If you donā€™t have an ED2 school, just wait and see what happens. FWIW, DD got into BC (Arts and Sciences) tonight. Had she been deferred, she would have applied to her ED2 school.

I would contact regional admissions officer and write a letter of continued interest. I wouldnā€™t be a pain but I would contact the regional admissions officer with any updates you may have like grades, test results, any accolades. Also I would try to have your guidance counselor reach out to BC. Be persistent but not a pain. Good luck.
