Boston College Fall 2017 Transfer

I know it might be a little early for Fall 2017 transfer threads, but if you’re anything like me you’re already obsessing over admissions.

If everyone applying could please post their stats, advice, experiences, etc… it would be much appreciated

MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian, Upper middle class

Current School: Average regional university
Major: Economics & Public Policy Double Major (depends on which school I get in to)
College GPA: 4.0
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:

  • Fellowship with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign
  • Internship with a congresswoman in my district (next semester)
  • Secretary of the Economics Club
  • Member of The Model United Nations team
  • Research Assistant for the Econ Dept. at my school
  • I also work as a hostess at a restaurant part-time
  • I’m tri-lingual
Recommendations: I already have a few professors in mind that I believe will write great ones!

High School GPA: 2.7

  • I struggled with a lot mental health issues that caused me to miss a lot of school.
ACT: 25 (I’m going to retake it, and aim for a 30+)
APs: I took 8 AP classes

Yes, I did absolutely terrible in high school. But hopefully they’ll be able to see how I got my act together and that I’m completely capable of succeeding at their school.

I welcome input and criticism on my chances

@reachinghigher15 Hello, I’m also interested in getting into Boston College for transfer. I’m coming from a community college in Pasadena, California. Before I give you my stats, I just want to say that you have amazing extracurricular activities. It is really amazing. What other schools are you going to be applying to?
My Stats
Current School: Pasadena City College
Major: Sociology and Political Science
College GPA: 3.89
And then I have horrible high school GPA for a number of reasons. I wasn’t really focused. I was distracted. I didn’t even know if I wanted to go to college or not. There were personal family problems that were occurring at the time.
High School GPA: 3.35
SAT 1700/2400. Again, horrendous SAT score. Maybe I might retake the SAT. IDK.

@Popcorn11201 ahh thanks! I’m also applying to Tufts, Georgetown, Cornell, Barnard, and University of Michigan

@Popcorn11201 @reachinghigher15 Hi all, I’m also applying to BC for Fall of 2017 as a transfer. Thank you for providing stats and I hope you guys get in. Here are my stats. Feel free to comment and let me know what kind of shape I’m in, I can take.

Current institution: MWCC

  • Member of the Visions Program
    Recommendations:
I will have recommendations from an outstanding math professor, as well as an outstanding Accounting professor, both of whom are routing for me!

I am taking the SAT in December and January, as well as the ACT

I hope you guys don’t feel bad about how you did in high school. I did far worse academically, and i’m very self-conscious about my performance.
High school GPA: 1.86

Yes that’s correct, my GPA is lower than most of the students in the country. I had suffered from medical issues in my GI tract, I had transferred to a different high school during sophomore year and transferred back to my original high school, and from injuries each year. Each event had kept me out of school for totals close to 20+ days at a time. When you’re out of school every year for that long, it totally affects you psychologically and physically and my grades had reflected. Also family problems but everybody has those to an extent. Anyways, my grades were awful. I was in AP from 3rd-8th grade and had always done well until high school. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have preconceived the events in forecast of my high school situation. I’m doing well for myself now.

Before the application is do, I will have completed 28-31 credits. I’m hoping this means that my high school record will be matter less and less. I’m hoping it matters less and less for all of us lol. Can you guys let me know where you will stand in credit completion before the application is due? Thanks for hearing me out. I’m open to suggestions and any comments! Good luck!

I’m already freaking out about the application and it’s not due for so long so I know exactly what you mean.
My stats:
current school: Bridgewater State University
major: political science
college GPA: 3.8
ECs: (not a lot in college mostly from high school)
-intramural soccer
-intramural volleyball
-10 varsity letters in cheerleading, gymnastics, and tennis
-best buddies volunteer

  • peer leaders volunteer

My SATs weren’t so good, I got a 160, and my GPA was a 2.6 due to the fact that I never really applied myself and just coasted my way through high school. I have some professors who will be writing me recommendation letters and a very active alumni who is writing me one as well so hopefully that’ll help as well. Good luck to everyone else!!

@Popcorn11201 I’m applying for political science too!

I decided to add even though I applied for this spring and not next fall. I’m horrified. It could come any day after tomorrow…

College: 3.9/4.0
Honors student
applying to CSOM
HS GPA: 3.19
SAT: 1860

I had my essays edited professionally (I think it was worth it - at least use the writing center at your uni though)
I’m also a duel citizen which I hope will help me

When I toured they told me not to bother retaking the SAT but I guess if u have time might as well right? I didn’t have time unfortunately

I am not involved in too much. I was on the board for my college democrats club as well as I had a job over the summer. I had a letter from my advisor as well as a non-major professor (I was decided first so I didn’t take any major classes until this fall)

My counselor told me with transferring it just depends on the applicant pool since you can have people who took a lot of time off and are returning, students who were waitlisted/denied as freshmen, etc. It isn’t as clear. I’m hoping for the best but certainly preparing for the worst. I’ll let you guys know what happens if you want, I haven’t been able to find any info to give me an idea of my chances so maybe it would help to know if I got in or not.

Also they seem to have a certain number of spots per school they are looking to fill with transfers. I think for this spring its like 40 or something but I asked if they had spots for CSOM before I actually applied. If you call they can most likely tell you how many spots they want to fill for fall. I would especially call if you are CSOM or nursing.

This thread has been dead for a while. Did anyone else apply?

Hey, I applied on March 8th, but I haven’t gotten any info via email or anything on the Boston College application portal yet. Has anyone else?

I finished applying a few days ago! I think it says on the website somewhere that you’re supposed to hear from them in 3 business days so if you haven’t yet I would probably email

Which supplemental essays did you guys choose? Also, are you guys sending in your AP scores from high school?

which supplemental essays did you guys choose?

just curious, but which topic did you guys choose for the supplemental essay?

Which supplemental essays did you guys choose?

@kyliexrae how many days did it take to get a confirmation email or portal access from BC after applying? I also haven’t gotten anything and I applied about a week ago.

Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.

Objective

HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement

MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)

Large upward trend

Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Summer 2016 – 4.0

Fall 2016 – 4.0

Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report

I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1

I received an A in english comp-2.

My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses

A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester with honors.

Personal Statement

I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO

Supps
One of my strongest, spoke about the minimum wage and fast-food workers. 9.5/10 IMO

LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program and experiential learning. I believe they are all excellent.

EC’s – I will only list college.

Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week

Elected president of leadership club.

VP of an academic club

Volunteer work with Dementia Patients

Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community

Leader of Jewish youth group

Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor

Again, I realize this is not a chance me thread, but would love to interact with all of you about the transfer process

I got an email on Monday and I sent in my application the 13th

Should I be worried that I still haven’t gotten my confirmation email or portal information and I applied over a week ago?

Does anyone know if there is a specific date that the admissions decisions will be released?
