I am hoping to be admitted to the Honors College at BC. I have read that the College typically consists of the top 5% of the incoming freshman class. I was wondering if being a National Merit Finalist helps a lot for admission, or if it is based mostly off of SATs and GPA. Thanks!

Honors is based on class rank (GPA) + test scores. But if you can score high on the psat, you should be able to duplicate that effort – easily – on the SAT.

Note, however, that each Department has an honors program. My D chose that route because she (had some AP credits and) wanted to take alternative courses during Soph year.

Had one daughter accepted into the A & S Honors Program she had a 4.5 and a 2190 on her SAT’s she also had a 740 on Math Level II SAT II and a 730 on her Literature SAT II.

Next daughter was accepted into A & S at BC but NOT into the Honors Program she also had a 4.5 but had a 31 on her ACT (2060 SAT concordance).

Hope this helps…

My daughter is a senior at BC and we know a few BC parents and kids. To be honest I wouldn’t get too excited about either being accepted or rejected with BC’s Honors program. Some of our friends had kids in the Honors program and the kids ended up being “lukewarm” about the whole thing. It had nice aspects to it and it had annoying aspects to it. Same thing with my daughter who isn’t in the honors program, she lives with some honors kids and feels that she hasn’t missed much.
