Boston College Mid-Year Transfer

Let me know how the chances are looking.
Sophomore bio major @ Tulane University (GPA: 4.0)
—STEM classes taken: calc 1, cell bio, ebio, gen chem1,2, currently in physics and organic chem
ACT: 33
Waitlisted in highschool (GPA was 3.65)
job: Group Fitness Instructor

stats are excellent, but the ‘Why BC?’ essay will be key. In other words, what do you bring to the campus life?

You are an excellent shape if you maintained a 4.0 all three semesters as a bio major at Tulane.
The essay is very important to clarify what BC has to offer that Tulane does not. BC has been slightly over enrolling it’s freshman classes last couple of years. However students transfer for many reasons and you should have a very good shot.

Collegegurlllll:
Look at the Boston College Fact Books from the past few years. Over the years you’ll see transfer application numbers ranging from 1300 to over 2000, with acceptance rates ranging from 9% to 34%.

It’s impossible to predict what the transfer situation will be this year.

Yes your stats are good. But you can believe you’ll be in good company with other applicants having equally good stats.

As bluebayou noted, make sure your application conveys to the adcoms “why BC” and the value you’ll bring to the student body. Make them want you.

Good stats are often viewed as a “check the box” item enabling the adcoms to turn to the more important parts of your application.

accepted!!

@collegegurlll…the transfer accepted rate has been trending lower in the last 5 years, and is ranging in the low teens to high single digits- so that is 2-3 X more competitive than the regular or previous EA acceptance rates over the same period. For transfers, my well placed sources tell me they are looking for more non traditional students (AHANA, Low income, community college transfers, athletes who didn’t start on other college squads) That said, your stats are very solid so good luck. PS…BC has an unofficial policy of grade deflation (Why is the real big question) , so maintaining a 4.00 in STEM @ MCAS will be a significant challenge.
