Hi - I am an incoming freshman at BC and was wondering the general dates of midterms for the fall semester. I know there is no set schedule, but a general time frame would be helpful. I was considering signing up for the 48 Hours retreat on Oct 19-21, however, if this is generally the weekend before a lot of midterms, I could sign up for November 2-4 instead. Any info or advice would be appreciated
Hi @juliet816 congratulations on deciding to come to Boston College! As you said before, no set schedule for midterms because it is very class dependent and the grading scheme of the class. Many of your large lectures will have a midterm and a final (and possibly some quizzes here and there). I personally went on the early November 48Hours and it was incredible (and I didn’t sign up until the semester started!). I would say sign up for one, and then once you get all of your syllabi, take stock one more time, and see if you are able to switch into one or the other. Sometimes at BC, “midterms” season can feel like it drags into the middle of November, but I would sign up for one, and then if your schedule seems hectic after that weekend, see if you can switch into another retreat time. Hope this helps!
Some faculty give two midterms, roughly every 5 weeks. If it’s just the one midterm, it’d be about 7 or 8 weeks in. It’s a busy stretch, but you’ll be fine!
