I was recently admitted to BC and was ecstatic! I received financial aid that put the price down to 49k. My other option is Rutgers where I would have to pay the full cost of 29k. I really like BC but the cost scares me a little bit. I would be debt free if I went to either college but I plan to go to med school so I would have money left over if I went to Rutgers. Is BC worth the extra money? Also, I am majoring in Biology. Thank you!
@SoHo1221 I’m mom (I don’t think my sons are on here). We’re going to Accepted Day at BC this week and Rutgers the week after. They are on one waitlist, but their two are the same.
@SoHo1221 It depends how much you like Rutgers! If you like Rutgers enough to be happy going there, then go there! Rutgers has great research opportunities, academic resources, and constantly places students in top med schools across the country. That said, if you know you would be miserable at Rutgers (or would just be constantly regretting not going to BC), then go to BC! I have to say, many people choose Rutgers even though it isn’t their first choice, but end up loving it and aren’t able to imagine going to school anywhere else!
TLDR: if you only love BC and hate Rutgers, then go to BC. But if you could be happy at Rutgers while saving money for med school, you will have the same opportunities and resources at Rutgers that you do at BC.
40K is a lot of money, and Rutgers is stronger in the sciences and has more research opportunities than BC.
If you check you’ll notice the same exact posters knock BC on every thread. Not sure what the issue is for them. As a person who went to a big state flagship at the Rutgers level and with children who went private well regarded schools. You will never regret having the network of the prestigious private but my flagship allowed me to write checks for all of them to go. So it’s what you want in life that matters but my guess is you’ll make a good decision.
agree with @privatebanker and i would say BC for pretty much anything apart from pre-med but Rutgers may be a bit better in pre-med and the reality is it is not as important at this stage if you to grad school
