Boston College or UC Berkeley?

I would not commit to attend a school I never visited first.

I dont know about BC, but Berkeley’s SAT range last year’s incoming class was 1280-1500 unsupercored.

Agreed and seconded.

I would go to the school that you feel more comfortable in. Any school ranked within the top 50 is a great university. Both BC and UCB will provide excellent educations, so take into consideration other factors such as location, campus feel, where you want to work in the future, etc when making a decision. From what you wrote it seem like you want to go to BC and there shouldn’t be any holding you back from attending.

This is coming from a student who got offers from UVa, UMichigan, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, CMU, NYU, and UNC but decided to choose UCLA. Most of the schools I mentioned above are ranked higher than UCLA but that didn’t keep me from choosing UCLA. I have friends who have gone to top 10 colleges and others who chose to go to top 30 colleges and they have told me that the materials taught are very similar. So choose the school that you think you will have a better experience at.

I would love to visit Boston College, but frankly I do not have time to go before I have to make the decision. Everything needs to be turned in by June 1st and my semester doesn’t end until June 15th. :(

missyujin, there are already loads upon loads of Asians at Cal. if you’ll go there, you’ll just be another Asian on campus. you also need to consider that, despite Cal having a more vibrant social scene and a much superior academic prestige and quality.

I suggest you go to BC.

I don’t know if Cal has a more vibrant social scene, BC’s got Boston and the same level of D1 sports. And the the academic prestige may be “much superior” but the quality really isn’t.

I like how we arrive at the same conclusion though RML lol, go to BC!

RML, that is not a legit reason to go to BC…

I said earlier to go to Boston College rather than Berkeley. I just came back to visit this thread and noticed you haven’t visited Boston College. Ordinarily, I’d say don’t go to a place unless you visited, but you really just don’t seem to want to go to Berkeley. You seem to be looking for people to give you reasons not to go to Berkeley. So don’t go. And go to Boston College. You might end up really not liking BC, though. You should be prepared for the fact that you are taking a risk. Go to BC. Give yourself until the second year to see how you really feel about it. The first year transition may be really tough.

At least look at a campus video or something

[YOUniversityTV: College Video Tours.](http://www.youniversitytv.com/beta/index.cvt.php#vid_id=68)

The video is really helpful, thanks!
I think I’ll go for Boston College. Practically all of my friends say go to Berkeley, but I’d rather be an individual, well taken care of and in a new environment. Wish me luck, and thanks for everyone who put thoughts into this thread! Big thank you!!!

Something else that has not been mentioned is that Boston College is a Jesuit University that has an emphasis on service and becoming a “man or woman for others”. As a Catholic, the environment at BC will hopefully make you feel at home and give you a sense of community as an out of state student.

Best wishes on your decision.

Yes, I knew. :)

I finally decided on BC last night. I went over to my sister and announced it. Then I went to my mom and announced it. She mouthed, “yes, I wanted you to go there too” and then started talking loudly (while winking) about how she wishes I go to Berkeley (so that my dad would hear: he thinks she’s deciding for me). :D

Thanks everyone!!

congrats on making your choice! I live in Boston and you’re gonna love BC and Boston.

Congrats as well. I grew up in Boston as well. It is nice and cultured town and people tend to value education highly. But be ready for buying heavy coat and driving on snow when you move here :-)

You made a good choice (and I speak as a Cal literature grad!)

Boston College is highly respected, offers a more intimate experience and… it’s (near) Boston, arguably the coolest student city in the United States. As a Californian you’ll get a fascinating insight into a very different part of the country, learn to love the four season  and learn to appreciate Mexican food like never before. 'Cos there just isn’t any good Mexican food east of the Mississippi for some weird unfathomable reason…

Oh God. I love Mexican food. lol

missyujin, if you love Mexican food, there are two great places to get burritos in Boston that every local should know

Felipe’s Taqueria in Harvard Square

Anna’s Taqueria at Porter’s Square

best burritos ever

^ Felipe’s in Harvard Sq. beats Anna’s Taqueria at MIT/Porter… :)

I agree, best burritos ever. Pierre, where in Boston do you live? Do you go to BLS?

I love Felipe’s, I go to Belmont High School so I take the 74 bus every wednesday during my free periods and get a super burrito for lunch
