I was accepted into both schools. I got into BC's Carroll school but did not get into the McCombs school at UT, but would plan to transfer sophomore year. Which school would offer a better education and would be better for the job market?

UT as the schools reach is greater post grad.

If you want to work in Texas, then UT.
Anywhere else in the world, BC.
UT’s wall street placement is god awful.

Do you have stats to back that up, angryelf?

Career services doesn’t even give out the full details on where people work( I.e. What division they are actually in) how could I possibly have stats to back anything up?

So then what is the basis for your answer?

Some dude wearing a rice shirt.

UT Austin is a much higher ranked UG b school than Carrol. UT Austin all the way.

Dude, you need to stop posting on threads where you have no idea what you’re talking about. Both UT and BC are regional targets. UT tends to feed into Houston and Dallas and BC will generally feed into Boston. Because Houston is a huge investment banking center and UT is the one of the main targets for those offices, UT places very well in IB. Boston does have an okay deal of banking, but you’ll be competing with all the ivies, MIT, BU, etc…

Also UT’s international prominence and alumni base will go FAR beyond that of BC’s. The UT MBA program even offers a part-time program in Mexico City, so there’s not only international recognition, but also an alumni base.
Like I said, both UT and BC are regional targets. Neither does that well on WS, but UT’s street placement is slightly better for the record. For IB in general, UT is way better.

Also, I think I’ve argued with you about this before, but rice is hardly hardly better for Houston banking than UT. Do your research before posting please.

To the op, both are great but I’d go with UT.

You’re pretty cocky for someone who hasn’t even interned yet.
Boston college’s placement into Barclays, Citi and UBS NY IBD is exceptional.
MS, JPM, DB and I believe Goldman interview on campus there for IBD as well.
Their numbers at IBD Barclays in particular are exceptional. Higher than many of the ivies.
Also, keep in mind that the school is much smaller than UT.

How many people get into IBD out of UT outside of McCombs?
It’s great that UT Austin has a great undergrad business school, but the op was rejected from it so it hardly seems relevant.

It’s also great that he plans on transferring into it, but considering they were rejected originally, it hardly seems like you can bank on that.

I never mentioned a thing about Rice’s recruiting. I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

If this were Boston College vs. Mccombs, it would be a different conversation, but it is not…

“Their numbers at IBD Barclays in particular are exceptional. Higher than many of the ivies.”

“How many people get into IBD out of UT outside of McCombs?”

angryelf. you are implying you have numbers, yet when I ask you for the stats (i.e., the number), you gave me flippant answers. So agains, what are the numbers? Where are the links? I am just trying to gather information. I want to give this kid the best possible answer and I want to see it backed up. When I have numbers, I use numbers. If I have opinions, I generally state that I am giving my opinion or a personal observation . Educate us. Because some guy on the internet spouting as an authority should not cut it with anyone!!!

I understand your skepticism and wish I could be more helpful.
Everything I have written is either from observing it directly or speaking with someone at said bank.
The bank where I did my SA had 4 people from BC in IBD a few years back. I guess you could say that my posts are the opinion of someone who has worked in the industry, albeit not as long as some of the people posting here. For privacy reasons, I’m not going to divulge any more.

Honestly though, there are much better places to ask this question than CC.
If this is something the op cares about, they need to contact former students from each of the respective schools and ask them their thoughts.

Abdrewt787 clearly goes to UT, so I’m sure he’ll be able to give you a good idea both on how hard it will be to transfer to mccombs and what OCR is like.

I’m sorry if I sounded cocky; I’m not meaning to be. Cocky people actually really annoy me!

It just seems like angryelf never has anything nice to say about UT. Everytime UT comes up, he’ll always take the opportunity to bash it (at least i think it’s him).

UT is Houston and Dallas focued when it comes to IB. There’s only a handful of firms (mostly elite botiques) that recruit for NY. If Wall Street is your goal, you should probably avoid UT (although i don’t think BC is really any better, at least from what ive heard). During the winter break, mccombs has SuperWeek where a lot of business students come back to campus to have a full weekend of IB interviews they’ve landed through OCR. They do this so that you can prep for your interviews without school/EC distractions.

[McCombs SuperWeek](http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/BBA/Career-Services/Super-Week.aspx)

Like I said, most of the firms are recruiting for Houston, not NY. Also this list is (obviously) not all of the banks that recruit, just the ones that participate in SuperWeek.

UT Austin is ranked in top 5 or top 10 for several areas of business and Finance is currently 6.

OTOH, OP is hoping to make to UT business school as a transfer. How viable is that?

MSFHQsite, have you seen the most recent businessweek rankings?. To say that UT-Austin has a much better ranking when BC is ranked #9 vs UT at #17 is actually quite alarming and suggestive that you need to revisit the 3rd grade.

UT has brand internationally. Why? Because it is a massive school. Penn State probably has more brand recognition internationally than BC. Does it mean its a better school? No. Does it mean that the alumni base, being so large, makes it more recognizable abroad? Yes. Does such international “brand recognition” really matter when you attempt to land your first job. No, unless you want to work abroad, in which case you such probably study where you want to work abroad in the first place.

@trizz75, I’m reasonably sure he was referring to the US News undergrad bschool ranking.
The businessweek rankings may be good for certain things, but accurately representing a school’s prestige is not one of them.
