Boston College RD 2023

What are my chances at Boston College’s Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences? I applied RD for the class of 2023 as a biology major. I’m a white male who lives in New York and attends a public high school in Syracuse.

I would say “match” and that, IMHO, your chances are very good.
Congrats on your accomplishments and good luck!

I think your odds are VERY good but applicants with equal stats and better stats, also didn’t get in. Also students with lesser stats. Its a crap-shoot. Also, depends on if the valedictorian of your school has also applied…that might hurt your chances a bit.

Thank you both!

What are my chances at BC’s college of arts and sciences? I applied RD as a Classical Studies Major. I am a white female from MA who attends public high school.

UW GPA: 3.72 (the reason for this is below)
ACT: 33

Senior Year:
AP Psychology
AP Calculus AB
AP Art History
Honors Art and Technique of Film
Honors Physics
Spanish 3

  • Team USA Athlete (10/11/12)
  • 6th at Junior World Championships (11)
  • 2nd / 3rd at competitions in France and Sweden
  • Athlete Ambassador
  • Running Club
  • Skating Instructor (11/12)
  • Varsity Cross-Country (10th)

My GPA is low because I had an untraditional high school experience in which I home-schooled my freshman year so that I could skate, I went to public school for the first time in my life sophomore year, and then I moved to MA for my junior year. In addition, I was in the hospital for 2 months during the end of term 3 because of an illness that I got overseas, and out for an additional 2 weeks at the end of term 2 because of international competitions. (I communicated this all in the additional info section). My grades have improved this year and I have got straight A’s last term

I’m asking because I’m not sure if my ECs or special circumstances will help my chances.

I think your sports record will put you over the top. Good luck!

can anyone tell me what they think my chances are?? i know my stats arent up to Bc’s standards

I think you’re good! I was accepted for Biology Early Action with a 34, 4.0 and similar extra curriculars.

Anyone know the middle 50% range for SAT of accepted students? I can’t find BC’s common data set.

@STEM2017 BC does not publish its CDS. It publishes a Factbook, which I suspect comes out in Jan. (It has the enrolled section scores like the CDS.) The 2021 section scores are also available at the NCES website. If I recall, the most recent stats are as follows:
2022 average for admitted students EA 1453
2022 average for admitted students EA+RD 1448
2022 average for enrolled students 1392
2022 middle 50 for enrolled students 1340-1480 (I have not seen a middle 50 for admitted)

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with RD. It seems that the extra 6k EA applicants may have simply shifted from RD.

Thanks @evergreen5! Very helpful.

Does anyone know how to submit financial aid documents to BC? When I filled out the CSS, it said that BC does not accept the CSS and that I would have to submit the documents directly to BC.

I’m a little confused here. The disparity between admitted and enrolled is not insignificant. Observing the numbers for enrolled students, why would BC defer and even reject candidates who’s standardized test scores are significantly above the middle 50? Are they on a mission? Seriously, no offense but it suggests bottom feeding. Otherwise, why discard qualified candidates above the average 50?

You have athletes, significant legacies, urm and low ses/first gen candidates that many times populate the lower quartile. The students not in those categories have stiffer competiton. You have to know who is being deferred and rejected by category and school. It’s not bottom feeding it’s trying to get somewhat of a mix. And the nature of a Jesuit school lowers the pool in some fashion. And with the need to improve the pell grant attendees which are now more important in usnwr than selectivity ( as in admissions rate which is no longer considered) its probably very strategic.

Lastly they expect a candidate pool this year of 35k up from 31k , the admissions team doesn’t believe its just simply a shift from rd to ea. It’s going to mean an admissions rate of 23 percent vs 27 percent last year. And a higher score range. I’ve heard it moved to 34 on act for the avg accepted EA. We will see on Jan 17.

Let me google that for you:

The mailing address for Boston College financial aid documents is:

BC has always said you need an overall strong app to apply EA. Unlike other colleges, which defer nearly every non-accepted EA app, BC will reject a third of them.

But hopefully your question was rhetorical as test score is only ONE aspect of a complete application. (Hint: the transcript is two aspects: GPA/class rank+course rigor, so you could say that transcript counts 2x that of test scores.)

If not rhetorical, you need to work on your critical thinking skills.

when does BC decisions come out? also I saw on the portal that they’re going to mail our decisions

probably end of march

If my son received a letter in the mail asking for copies of tax returns and W2s, does that mean his chances of getting in are higher? Or do they send those to all applicants?

@hopingforanswers I’m sorry, but I don’t think so. I think it just means his application is incomplete without that info.
