@Paniniman Boston College guarantees that all applicants will hear back by April 1, 2015, but they give this date so that they will have a deadline to meet. In 2013, letters were mailed on Friday, March 22, and in 2014, letters were mailed on Friday, March 21. This year, it is practically guaranteed that letters will be mailed on Friday, March 20. Side-note, I spent a good 3 minutes trying to figure out what your username means before I came to “Panini Man”. LOL
@SMarie101 lol your the first to say anything about my name. I’m quite skeptical about colleges ever since Umiami. Miami releases them the first week on February, this year they released them Sunday Night :-< (of the second week). So I was just wondering how you where all confident
@Paniniman Every year, for Early Action and Regular Decision, letters are mailed on a Friday. To ensure that all students get their letters by the deadline, they need to mail letters on the 20th. This date also checks out with past years’ dates (March 22nd, 21st) Following the pattern, this year will be March 20th.
@Paniniman, See comment #50
@Starstudent69 you mentioned BC said they would email your decision on the 19th. Are you out of the country?
So apparently BC is EMAILING decisions now between March 18th and March 23rd…
@justinn76 woah woah woah, where did you hear this? BC never, ever emails decisions, it’s always snail mail.
Hi guys!! Nervous for decisions to come out!!!
@SMarie101 Check out the new discussion thread we posted earlier today.
@DevlinHall208 Great, thank you!!
@justinn76 Are you sure of this? I don’t think Boston College has ever done that, and their website says decisions come out by mail! How did you hear this?
@chocolateswag BC Admissions just posted about this change in a new thread on this website. It reads:
For the first time, all Regular Decision applicants will be notified of their decision via e-mail. The e-mail will be sent to the address used as the primary e-mail on the Common Application, so it is imperative to check that e-mail account, as well as periodically check the spam folder (or properly adjust those settings, if able). The e-mail will contain an attachment, which will open your decision letter.
All admitted students will receive an admission packet in the mail, which will be mailed after the e-mail is sent. Any students receiving waitlist or deny decisions will not receive anything beyond the e-mail.
The date of this e-mail release has not been finalized, as the decision-making and operations process is still ongoing. We intend for the e-mail to send between March 18-23. There will not be a formal announcement with a specific date and time; however, we will tweet on our account, @BC_Admission, as soon as the e-mail is sent.
This process will eliminate a waiting period and end any speculation over Portal tabs. We hope this comes as exciting news for all applicants.

@Gronkmeister56 Your ECs look good, for sure. Your SATs definitely will make you look good in the applicant pool, and the fact that you’re a legacy applicant gives you a much better chance of getting in to BC, the acceptance rate for legacy applicants is much higher. I think you’ll get in. Good luck! Decisions will be out next week!
@Gronkmeister56 we have similar stats I have a 3.571 and a 31 ACT but I applied to CSOM. Good luck! You sound like you have a great chance

While this may be true at many schools, it’s hardly true at BC.
In fact in past years’ BC decision threads on CC, you’ll see complaints from several alumni parents who were furious their kid didn’t get accepted, especially after giving $$$ to BC for so many years.
@jpm50 the BC Admissions counselor that came to my high school told us that legacy kids are being actively sought after as potential members for the Class of 2019, and that they have a certain degree of leverage when applying. Certainly, being a legacy applicant won’t guarantee you anything, and there are no promises, but I think the acceptance rate is generally higher. At least according to that Adcom.
I believe all colleges value legacy applicants since colleges stand to profit more from donations down the line. However, I agree with jpm50. If the applicant isn’t competitive (doesn’t have the desired stats etc), coming from a typical legacy family isn’t going to change the outcome and it’s perhaps best not to get someone’s hopes up. You don’t have much longer to wait anyway, good luck!
Check your email everyone…just got an update from BC admissions, telling us to be sure to check our email because “review of applications is nearing its conclusion” and they “will be communicating decisions via email no later than March 31”. I think this is a nice touch, especially since it is such a hectic time of year.
