Boston College Regular Decision 2019

When will we hear about need based aid?!

@mingeh it should be on the agora portal. our D’s was this morning early. hope you’re sitting down…

@collegemomjam‌ , @NewportHSSenior , I don’t necessarily think it is “yield protection”, though it might be. They just want to make sure that with around 40% yield that they have enough students. If they overestimate their yield, then they will have too few students so they pull from their wait list to fill the class, but if they underestimate their yield, they will have a real big problem – not enough spots for all the students they accept who accept a spot. So better for them to overestimate yield and have to pull students from the wait list to fill the class.

Yield protection is different. This is what Case Western does when they wait list a whole bunch of really strong students who they think won’t attend unless they get one of their large scholarships and the kids didn’t quite make the cut for a full ride or half scholarship. If those kids actually add themselves to the wait list, they could then see a $10k-$20k scholarship since they have actually shown they want to attend. This way, they don’t accept a bunch of students who most likely won’t attend and are just using Case as a safety – thereby making their yield higher by not accepting strong students as well as weak ones.

Still haven’t gotten a decision… is anyone still waiting?

@firefox3028‌ Did you check your spam email folder? If so and there was no email from them, I’d call admissions for guidance on this.

@HuskyMom‌ There’s nothing in my spam email and I did call, but they told me I’d get it “within the next week”…

That is strange–yet eveyone else got theirs? The wait has to be brutal! So sorry–but good luck!!

Forget the email and just login to your BU portal and click on the Decision link.

S did not get an email, not in spam, no financial update in portal. I called and they verified all documents there and were still processing up until April 1. would not say anything more. strange I think

Perhaps you are eligible for Options Through Education, and these candidates are processed later? You should ask the Admissions Representative Devlin Hall what the delay is, since it isn’t right that some are still waiting for their decisions when others have already received theirs last week. Good luck to you.

Has anyone received financial aid awards? I am very curious as to how much people are getting. We have a conditional award and it is shockingly low.

My FAFSA is still processing or is waiting to be downloaded or w/e.

Has anyone received any kind of Merit Aid other than the Presidential or Gabelli award? I thought that was the only way to get merit aid but then I heard of someone who claimed to get merit aid that wasn’t Presidential/Gabelli. Thanks!

Late, but accepted!

[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My internships & essays were pretty bomb.
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied:[ /list] Accepted to Carnegie Mellon, USC, NYU, Bryn Mawr, Smith, & Rice! Waitlisted at Notre Dame, Wellesley, Barnard, & Boston College (huh?!). Rejected by Penn, Brown ED, Georgetown, Northwestern, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, & Johns Hopkins.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:[/noparse] When one door closes, another opens. That’s the case for me this year during this application process; I was in despair after Brown straight-up rejected me in the ED round since pretty much everyone is usually deferred rather than rejected, but I’m very excited to join Rice in this fall! More than happy to be an Owl
