Boston College Regular Decision 2019

Gah! I just got denied by WUSTL (kinda expected it since sooooo many good students were applying for them) and I’m just sitting here waiting for my BC decision… I’m sad. So far I’ve gotten rejected/waitlisted from all school I’ve applied to. :((
Hopefully I get into BC… Can someone chance me for CSOM?

For what it’s worth, my son is in the same position. 3.8UW/4.3W GPA and 34 ACT and nothing but across the board rejections (including WUSL). BC is basically his last hope. I would think you have a good chance but my son was rejected by schools where he was expected to be admitted. It has been absolutely devastating.

@Lagunatic:
Didn’t he get accepted to Villanova’s VSB in December?

I got deferred so I’m excited to hear next week!

Remember, no one can tell you if you’ll be accepted or not. Even the adcoms at competitive schools like BC say they can’t tell you beforehand how a decision will go.

If you look through the decision threads in recent years for BC in this forum , you’ll see some with high stats who did not get accepted. Then you’ll see some with much lower stats who did get accepted.

@Njrunner and @Katmag I’m with you guys, I was also deferred. I’m incredibly anxious for decisions to come next week, I just hope they don’t take too long… Those of us who have been deferred have been waiting for what seems like eternity. :persevere: :disappointed_relieved:

hey guys, can you chance me?

SAT I: 2100 (750M, 660R, 690W) (not a great test taker)
SAT II: 790 M2, 740 M1, 690 bio
Extremely competitive private school in NY
AP bio, AP Calc (took AB as junior, BC as senior), AP Chem, AP US (junior) AP physics, AP gov (senior)
92% average, brought down by the difficult coarse load especially calc where I consistently get B’s
Hook I guess would be legacy. My mom, 3 brothers, and aunt went there (does this help?)
Extracurriculars are decent, did tutoring for spanish-speaking kids in my area, volunteered at fire dept, interned at cardiac imaging center, 4 year varsity baseball and basketball, out of school baseball very competitively but chose not to play in college
Essay-pretty good, talked about sports and their influence on my life, hope not generic
supplement- contemporary issue I said recent issues on police brutality, didn’t argue the verdicts but what they stand for. How progressive humanity is scientifically but how backwards we are culturally.

Really appreciate all the input anyone can provide

Also, my school is somewhat of a BC feeder-school. A lot of kids go every year (on the low end 3 on the high end 6-7) and my school is very small. And my recommendations are solid, both teachers and counselor. I’m assuming they wont help much but definitely won’t hurt me.

@st0rm723 Of course there are no guarantees, but your chances seem good to me. I wouldn’t stress if I were you; it’s clear that you are quite accomplished, and you appear to be the kind of well-rounded student BC looks for. Good luck!

so does anyone know the exact decision date?

@bw68apply‌ the BC admissions said between the 18th and the 23rd and then the email they sent us said by the 31st. I’m hoping for the 18th but I’m not going to be surprised if it comes a day or two after.

@justinn76 I agree. One would think they already have a date in mind.

Hi guys I’m new to this thread!
I am really hopeful that I can get into BC but I’m sure it’s a slim chance due to my LOW (and I mean LOW) SAT scores and subject tests. I think in the beginning I underestimated BC because here in Cal the UC system is very forgiving if you don’t have amazing test scores (I’m talking about my friend who was just admitted to UC San Diego with a 1550) and I’m not sure why I even compared them in the first place. I know its super different for everyone so I am staying very very hopeful… very anxious about the decisions! Good luck to all of you! I haven’t gotten accepted anywhere I’ve applied (yet-hopefully), all the decisions are this month and next!

Thanks a lot! I don’t know where did he get the info but I heard someone said 13th is the date. Guess that was misleading!

Just chiming in here…on legacy, it is my understanding it does help and that the admissions rate is higher, but the stats have to be in range at least, they won’t just take anyone because their parent or parents went to BC. And as it relates to stats in general, I have been following a lot of threads for different schools and from what I can see BC has been doing a very good job of looking holistically at students, so don’t feel that one bad “thing” can hurt you…if the rest of the app is strong and well rounded, I would think BC will give your application full consideration. It just seems to be a very tough year, hang in there everyone.

@collegemomjam Thanks for your post. My stress and anxiety about these decisions is now on a whole new and frightening level, and it’s eating away at me. As I am an Early Action applicant who was deferred, I have been waiting for months, (as have many others). Your words are just the reassurance I needed.

Looks like they are close!
