Boston College Transfer Thread [Fall 2018]

For posterity:

Current college: Unranked 4-year institution
Applying as: Rising Sophomore
Major: Biology (Dornsife CAS)

High School GPA: ~3.5 (UW)

ACT Scores: 33

College GPA: 4.0 GPA (30 credits)

Hooks: First Generation, Minority, Consecutive Dean’s List, not much else.

US/Intl: US

ECs: -Currently own and run a federally recognized nonprofit.
-Work with local underserved population with citizenship paperwork; lead and advised newly arrived youth.
-Have a simulated portfolio where I do amateur investment (surprisingly) making profit.
-Do free chemistry tutoring.

Good luck to everybody!

I might as well hop on the bandwagon and join in on this thread–hopefully some others will too (unless by some miracle there aren’t as many students transferring in this year…we can hope lol).

Current college: Colgate University (Ranked #12 in USA Today “Best Liberal Arts” schools)
Applying as: Rising Sophomore
Major: English (maybe with a concentration in Creative writing)

High School GPA: this one’s a bit tricky…so technically my unweighted is 4.0, weighted is 4.6/4.7…thing is, if you look at the numbers it’s a 96 unweighted and 98 weighted…my school had a weird system.

SAT Scores (for easiness sake I’m going to list my highest): 760 (writing), 720 (reading), 550 (math, old), 610 (math, new); essay was 10

College GPA: I don’t have one listed yet, as most of my courses have yet to put out grades (I’m jealous of those who have some!). Between this semester and next semester I should have 28 credits. I’m aiming at a 3.7 GPA minimum.

Hooks: First Generation, Minority (Female), school is apparently known for grade deflation (this is something a bunch of students have told me, and while I don’t know if its necessarily a hook, I hope it will be considered given the classes and grades I have)

US/Intl: US

-I am perform service for the school by volunteering as an overnight host for visiting prospective students
-I volunteered for a political campaign for a short period of time

Additional Things:
-I am working towards publishing a book of poetry, and am about halfway finished with my first novel. I have had work published in literary magazines in my area, and have won regional awards for several of my works.
-Along with the community service bit, I offer English tutoring and editing services for kids in my area, and am considering extending my services to those in my college town.

I’m hoping to transfer into the economics program

College GPA: 3.4

I am expecting my high school GPA and SAT scores to kill my application, as I will be competing with some stellar applicants, and BC has a very low transfer acceptance rate. But, I’d figured I would give it a try!

Hey guys! I’m currently a community college student in California. I’m applying to BC as a reach school. Here are my stats, good luck to all of you!

Good Luck for your applications!
I am currently attending a California CC and will be applying to the business school. Currently I have a 4.00 (47 credits) and hope that I can keep it that way.

Just curious, @TransferFall2018 , are you applying as a sophomore and as a junior? That’s a lot of recommendations (not that that’s a bad thing! )

Had to edit my emoji. The wide grinning face is terrifying XD

Hey Guys! I just turned in my fafsa, and my Estimated Expected Family Contribution is 000112. I was wondering if you guys had any idea/estimate on how much aid I’d get/how much I would be paying if you guys had any friends at BC who got aid from fafsa. Let me know! Thanks

@MsRazzleDazzle , I am applying as a rising Junior!

@TransferFall2018 Oh, okay, that makes sense! Sorry, I saw you had so many letters and was like wait…should I have more 0_0 XD

@MsRazzleDazzle I viewed the school as such a reach that I decided to put an effort into attaining great letters. It wouldn’t hurt my application so I decided to submit the maximum they allowed.

Hey guys, quick question: what about the midterm report? I spoke with my representative today and she said they don’t consider it “official” (her words not mine), because I mentioned how I may not see my grades until the end of the semester and so will likely not be able to submit it on time. She also said the only thing they’re waiting on for me are my transcript and the Transfer College Report (different from midterm report) and then they’ll consider my application complete. Has anyone else heard differently? If I bring the form to my professors and they don’t have a current grade, she also said they could leave it blank. I’m currently not doing too hot in one class based on one grade, so should I just wait until later, or have my professor leave it blank?

I just want to make sure I’m doing it right so I don’t mess anything up

@MsRazzleDazzle hey! i don’t think you have to send in the midterm report until midterms are over/you’re halfway done with the semester. they will probably update your application checklist and notify you that you need to send that in, and give you time to do so. that’s what my counselor told me at school.

Are there special math requirements to transfer to BC? Just got denied to a school for not taking Algebra II//Trigonometry/Calculus yet. Didn’t find anything on BC’s website regarding it or the school I was rejected from.

You didn’t write your major. Business for example requires Calculus, similarly to the majority of all other schools. Nevertheless, it depends on your major.

@Vincent1997 Political Science

Current college: UC Berkeley
Applying as: Rising Sophomore
Major: International Studies

High School GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.6 W
SAT Scores: 710 (writing), 650 (reading), 650 (math) (I know, pretty low)
College GPA: 3.7 (Berkeley’s notorious for grade deflation so I’m hoping that will be taken into account?)

Essays: I wrote for prompt 4.

US/Intl: US
College ECs:

  • staff writer for my school’s newspaper
  • member of the marketing department for my school’s United Nations Association branch
  • co-run and co-started a clothing company
  • student ambassador for the study abroad organization I used last semester

Other:

  • didn’t apply to BC as a HS senior

You all seem like great candidates! Fingers crossed for us all :,)

Anybody know when we can expect a decision?

I have may 12 in my notes. I think that’s when everyone got it last year.

@Vincent1997 @LookAtMe most likely the 11th, since (if I remember correctly) BC sends out decisions on Fridays, and the 12th this year is a Saturday. Either way, it’s nervewracking =_=‘
