Boston college > UCSD?

I’m a student admitted to both schools and trying to make some decisions.
I’m planning to go into pediatrics or nursing and i was wondering what school would be better for me.
I know that ucsd doesn’t offer nursing but the do offer pediatrics so could you guys please help me make a decision on this?
Thankyou :)

Where are you located?

washingtonnn! hahahaha

Dear IcingOnTheCake : Low hanging fruit here - you have to respect the fact that BC understands the difference between an accepted and rejected application when informing students, don’t you?

I wish people would stop talking about that incident. It’s not the first time it’s has happened in college admissions.

Besides that, I’d rather go to BC just because it’s out of state. Boston seems like a really fun place to be.

Well the biggest difference is that at UCSD you are in the UC bureaucracy–not as much attention, harder to get into classes, etc. Boston College is much smaller and that comes with a lot of advantages. BC also requires a large liberal arts core which UCSD does not. UCSD gives you be the beach, BC gives you snow. BC for sure has a better rep on the east coast, but the west coast loves their UC’s so you would know better than I would how it is out there. BC has really good med school acceptance rate and strong pre-med program, so that may be a plus for you. I think the biggest issue you are facing is if you want a big school or a not-so-big one. I got into UCLA and came to BC because I preferred the size and personal attention to the massiveness of UCLA. I felt like I would come out of BC having learned more. I don’t know all the details, but I also know the UC’s are in some budget trouble and facing cuts from the Governator. I didn’t want Ahnold messing with my education. BC has been affected by a drop in the endowment, but much less so than a lot of other schools.

This is a subject I can comment on. We live in San Diego, and my daughter was admitted to BC. She did not apply to UCSD, but hopefully if she applies to med school will apply to UCSD. The 2 schools could not be more different. BC is small, cares alot about it’s students, has Div I sports, is a close nit environment and a true “college campus” feel to it. UCSD is big, has less than stellar sports, and the environment is not like BC in a college feel. I have several people who I know who have gone there that have said that the social atmosphere really doesn’t exist. You really have to make your own friends, and social life. People leave on the weekends, campus is so quiet.
Weather wise, nothing really need be said here. Today it’s 70 degrees and clear. Boston - what 40 degrees (not really sure). So it all depends on what you want. What I and hopefully my D liked about BC (after going to the early admit day in Jan) was the campus feel, the personal way they take care of you (oh, by the way, you won’t get that at a UC) If you are going pre-med, you get a pre-med advisor day one as well as a regular advisor. She liked the sports, the dorms, the food, the fact that Boston was only 30minute ride on the T and that Boston is probably the largest college town (most colleges in and around).

But in the end, I guess you get what you pay for. UC’s - 25,000 a year BC - 53k. My D was accepted to BC & Cal, and BC is still tops on her list even after the 8degree day we spent in January visiting.

It’s about 65 today in Boston, but still no San Diego.
