Boston College Vs. Boston University

I have been told they are both matches for me and am expected to get into both. What are the main differences, and in your opinion, which is "better" and why?

BC is a better school, period.

no BC is better for certain things. Let's compare BC communications vs. BU. BU wins that battle by a long shot.

BC Business vs. BU business...
BU wins
Go to BU!

Also, BC is religious.. like Jesuit. Pretty annoying, and you have to take theology and all that crap.

I personally prefer BU, because it is actually in Boston, it has a wider range of students (not mostly Catholics) and it is slightly bigger. I like its vibe more than the feeling I get from BC. I think I'm going to visit both because they are good local matches/safeties for me (IDK which).

Dunkaroo - Let's compare BC communications vs. BU. BU wins that battle by a long shot.

I just learned that I was accepted to the BU Communications School (Early Decision), so you know what I'd prefer lol.

I like Boston Univeristy, Boston College may have a better reputation but BU is proving itself to be on par with the NYUs of the world nowdays. Some of its departments are much, much better then BC and plus it isn't a catholic dominated, catholic philosophy dominated school, more diversity.

Also it's in the heart of Boston. BU is one of the school's I am looking at.

"...but BU is proving itself to be on par with the NYUs of the world nowdays"

Is that to say NYu is better right now?

I think he means big schools in big cities.

NYU is better then BU CURRENTLY. However, there is a good chance that BU will become EQUAL in the next few years.

Also, BU has the Trustee Scholarship, which I may apply for if my other choices fall through on financial aid. Who can turn down a full ride for 4 years?

Financially, I believe that BU is more expensive than BC. Of course, there is the Trustee Scholarship for BU.

The Trustee Scholarship is extremely chancy-- something like one in 70 applicants gets it, I think.

BU's Honors Program, University Professors Program, and certain majors offer as great an education as any school in the world. However, the vast bulk of the students experience something of much lower caliber.

Be careful not to equate selectivity with quality of education. Although BC is on average harder to get into, BC does not offer all of the programs that BU does. For the majority of programs that the schools have in common, BU generally comes out ahead. They are very different schools, though, and I'd wager that if you were to visit both, your preference would become more clear. Also, BU is a lot larger than BC in terms of number of students, and doesn't have the resources to coddle its students. BC does have more resources to do so and this is important to a lot of people.

First of all, although everyone thinks one must take Theology and be exceedingly religious at BC, that is a false statement, although there are in fact many catholics, you are not required to be a catholic or religious to attend BC. Second of all, BC consists of a much better education then BU. Furthermore, BC actually has a campus, while BU...well I'm sure you know what I mean lol. BC is also more respected and although it isn't directly in Boston, it contains very easy access to the city. Lastly, although the following is more personal, BC is more preppy which I prefer. I'm not trying to boast about BC, because honestly I'm applying to both regular, but I just wanted to clear some things up. Oh yeah and one more thing, I would suggest visiting both colleges first before making any decisions if possible.

"BC consists of a much better education then BU"

Can you elaborate on your assertion here? It's a pretty general statement you've made and I'd like to know what makes you think so. Thanks!

Yeah you're right, bascially what I meant is although BU has more options and programs then BC, BC works to put the most effort in its programs and such. For example, the sciences at BC are excellent and definitely better than at BU, this is also a major thing to consider for premed students. My best friend's sister who attended BC said the students at BC were MUCH more motiviated and ambitious than students at BU, now of course you will find motivated and un-motivated students at all schools, but when she described the difference, the general BC student population seems more 'into learning and still enjoying life (the girl I speak of was a crazy partier, and is currently at a top medical school)' than the BU population.

Furthermore..much of the information I am getting and telling is from other students, including CC'ers, who go to the school/have visisted it and created general opinions on each school. I did simple searches and just elaborated to what they said based on what I know as well.

BU!
I'm applying to both schools. Although BC is a great school academically and is #40 (while BU is #60), I've always loved BU. In fact, it is my first choice. I had the chance to visit both schools about two weeks ago and I can tell you my impressions:
When I got to BU I was astounded with the diversity and how it is an urban environment, you have Fenway Park right there, you can actually see the games from some of the dorms. I loved what I felt when I walked along Commonwealth Avenue. I'm in love with BU, I've always been, even before actually being there. The only downsides are the dorms and the bathrooms.
After BU, I took the train to BC and the impression was totally opposite to what I felt at BU. BC's campus is huge, it has a lot of hills, people have to walk A LOT. The buildings look like ancient churches, in fact, the whole campus looks like a monastery. My mom said 'I don't want you going here, you'd get depressed!'. So I was bummed, it gets colder there than it does in the city, and even though it is not far from the city, it is not as convenient for BC students to go somewhere in the city as it is to BU students. However, BC's academic programs are amazing. The information session was great, a girl talked about how she is a senior majoring in finance and how she already has a job offer from JP Morgan in NY to start as soon as she graduates! Their business professors are ranked among the top economists in the US!
But still, BU's my first choice. :) I'm so obsessed! I bought a BU tshirt :p. I applied for the Trustee Scholarship as well.

BU for me, in part because I could never go to a religious/catholic school. BC is also too preppy for me. Plus BU has this Boston Public High School full tuition scholarship that it gives to around 58 students a year. I applied to it, and I think I have a somewhat decent chance since more than 20 students from my school get it each year.
