Well then finalchild I will immediately cease and desist. God forbid we are getting tedious. I will leave misinforming kids to you - it is your specialty. More than twice my posts in less time. I had no idea you were such a hero - jumping in and all.

You define tedious on these boards, you always have an agenda.

As far as the choice the OP of course should go with best fit…every kid should. You always comment that everyone feels such pressure to attend the highest ranked place but I believe that is nonsense. People I know just don’t do that…not everyone is obsessed with rankings.

That’s completely unfair bigdog. Did you read my post? You don’t think your description of Worcester combined with someone else’s description of a decaying school long past its prime might have a deleterious effect. You really are unbelievable. You act like you are above it all with rankings but then you slam perfectly good school left and right. What, you didn’t know how to say something intelligent after your theory about me with LACs was blown out of the water?

My theory is correct

“slam a good school left and right”, so dramatic yet so unfair. What I think is I and others gave the OP our opinions. No one is foolish enough to go only by the opinion of random posters. Its not personal with me but it IS from real experience. I think Worcester is a tough place to spend 4 years and I agree with the poster that HC has lost a good deal of its luster. Because you say that is slamming does not make it so, because you disagree does not others wrong.

You can say HC and Worcester are the best things since sliced bread…just your opinion…many of us disagree. It is allowed. You “slam” Duke left and right on these boards, my opinion is that is ridiculous but you can say it. Many others will tell any OP that Duke is a great school. In the end it balances and the OP has to choose.

“Above it all with rankings” …another ridiculous statement. I am above nothing I just don’t care about them. My older D goes to GW, she got in much higher “ranked” schools but she loved and still loves the school. Fit is what matters. I’m above nothing. I just don’t think the rankings debates matter and can’t be determined. You get upset because I’m not one of these people who obsesses over USNWR rankings. Oh well, let your debates rage. I wouldn’t care if HC was ranked #10 and BC #40…from what I know and see I would still pick BC if it fit me better…and for me and my kid it would and does.

Your theory is incorrect and I provided the data to show it.

Have I gone overboard with Duke? Sure, I have, but I think Duke has enough protection here that somehow Duke will be OK. It has more rabid defenders and promoters than you can shake at stick at.

But the most ludicrous thing is that you say you have no interest in rankings, and yet you don’t hold back from comparisons and ripping schools that most would say are pretty darn good.

And you did just re-endorse what I said…Worcester bad place to spend 4 years and “I agree has lost a lot its luster.” What’s you’re basis for the latter statement?

I would take BC over Wesleyan, Vassar, Davidson, or Haverford as well. But not just because of prestige; BC is a national university in a major city. As such, it has a very different atmosphere than a small LAC in a more rural setting. These are largely personal preferences that any prospective student needs to evaluate on their own.

Let it be known that required’s single contribution to this thread is noting that BC has a next-door town campus housing 40% of the freshman class.

Seriously. If someone solely bases his/her decision on the possibility of living less than two miles from class during their first year, I don’t want him/her to come to my school.

Agreed. I actually heard the freshman really enjoy living on the Newton campus. They have their own campus for a year which is pretty nice.
