I have been accepted to BC and waiting on NYU ( also accepted so far to Babson, Northeastern and Villanova). I want to major in finance and hopefully end up on Wall St someday. I am wondering out of BC and NYU, which school has a better finance program ? I have been to both and am aware of the differences in culture, campus, etc. just wondering who has the better program / opportunities ?? Thanks
Stern is better known for finance, and has the advantage of being close to Wall St; a bunch of kids there intern at the big-name firms every year. If money isn’t a problem, I’d go to NYU.
I would give NYU the edge, but they are both great schools. I do think that the type of college experience you want (ex. do you want big time sports? a campus? an urban environment) should play a part in your final decision.
NYU > BC. Also, being located right next to Wall Street is a huge plus for networking, internships, etc.
Stern has an edge but CSOM is still a great school for it.
Thanks so much, I am waiting on Middlebury and Bowdoin also, any additional comments on those 2 ?
Both great schools, but at that point you have to decide if you want to study business at a university or something like economics at a LAC.
It is important to understand that economics and finance are very different majors. Economics is a liberal arts course of study and gets very theoretical at the upper levels. In contrast if you go to an undergraduate busienss school you will take a business core with introductory classes in subjects such as accounting, finance, IT, marketing etc. and then you will major in one of those disciplines. I’m not saying that one path is better than the other, but they are different. I would take the time to look at the coursework (can be found online) for both a finance and an economics (or whatever you would plan to study at the LACs) major and see if one path is preferable to you.
