My son is torn between going to Boston College and the Schreyers Honors College at Penn State. Does anyone have any experience with their children attending either? He is interested in studying alternative energy and finance. Need advice...thank you!

What aspect of alternative energy is he interested in? I would think that an university with an engineering department would be better for studying alternative energy unless he was more interested in basic research aspects. Boston College doesn’t have an engineering school but it’s pretty good in the sciences.

I’d also think that it would be quite difficult to fit in all of the needed science courses along with the business courses required for a finance degree. I think that most universities have different schools for science, engineering and business.

Schreyers has been an awesome opportunity for our son. The engineering dept. is highly ranked. They have some very cool stuff going on with alternative energy. He can get research experience almost immediately and probably all summers that he is there. They get quite a bit of research money which allows many different research opportunities. He ought to check the website and see if it gets him excited.
