Hey guys,
This is my first time posting on CC, so forgive me if I make any stupid mistakes. Since there was no waitlist thread for the class of 2018 (students entering BC in the fall of 2014), I decided to create one. Anyone have any extra information about the waitlist for this year? Post stats, etc or any extra stuff that you may want to post about BC’s waitlisting over the past years.

@chuckly- BC will not go to their waitlist until after May 1st. If you are waitlisted it is important to write admissions and let them know that if admitted from the waitlist you will attend BC. Don’t give up hope!! In the past, many students are admitted from the list.

@dreambig101 Thanks for the extra info and help- I really appreciate it! Do you think I should write a “why bc” letter directly to the undergrad admissions office or should I send an email and a letter to the regional representative? Do you think I should send anything else as supplemental material?

@chuckly- You can definitely send it to both the admissions office and the regional representative. You can also state why you feel BC would be a great fit for you. If you have any quarter grades you can send that as well. It would be great to send any updated info regarding awards you may have received since sending in your application. Don’t forget to let them know that if you are admitted you will attend. Good luck!!!’

i was waitlisted too

@candy0615 is BC one of your top choices? did you accept your place on the waitlist?

BC and Georgetown are tied for my top choice, I got waitlisted at BC and yet to hear from georgetown…I applied to Carroll and thought I was competitive but I guess not

Some Quick Stats:

Senior Year Grades 1st Semester:

achievements and leadership:

president of my community service organization

dont really know where I fell short other than maybe my weak freshmen year

I’m not really sure what to believe regarding BC’s selection. 5 kids applied from my school and 3 were waitlisted. SATs and GPA were fairly different between each. One was a 2130 and 4.0, another 2000 and 3.8, and the other 1940 and 3.7. It seems weird how they’re quick to commit 3 kids to the waitlist with different stats but accepted a soccer player with a 1300/2400 in 2013…

I applied to the CAS, but BC was probably my top choice for this year. I’ve already contacted my regional rep but is anyone going to visit again to show interest? Or do we just wait until May 1st?

@chuckly BC is definitely one of my top choice.
I would want to wait for the results from other schools before deciding whether or not I should accept my place on waitlist

Noooooo.

Search cc for threads written by scottJ who has excellent ideas on how to write a letter of interest; essentially, why you are a good fit for BC, what you bring to the table.

Send it in to your rep in late April.

Anyone visiting BC to express interest? I live on the east coast and got into BU so I suppose i could go and see BC as well… anyone have any ideas besides the letter of interest?

Aside from updating the admissions office with new information, if you’re on the waitlist, it’s time to turn your focus to your “Plan B” school. The chances of getting off the waitlist are low, and the variables involved are nothing you can control.

There is a great post answering questions on waitlists here. While it was written with Columbia in mind, it applies to nearly all schools.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1121583-what-waitlist-all-your-questions-answered.html

I was waitlisted, I already sent my money to Brandeis, but BC is my top. I wrote a letter to Elizabeth Borge, and Doug Floutie is writing me a recommendation, so fingers crossed. My first semester grades were decent.
AP Chem- 92
AP Euro- 94
Ap Environmental- 96
AP Spanish- 95
Civics- 98

@pgibb6796- do not give up hope!!! Last year BC admitted quite a few from the waiting list. Every school is different in terms of how many are admitted from the list. You can’t look at the stats from other schools and compare them to BC. Good luck!!!

@dreambig101 Thank you for the support!

I was waitlisted as well and am wondering how BC decides who to accept off the list. Do they rank people on the waitlist and send out acceptances in order? Or do they re-evaluate all waitlisted candidates to fill the remaining spots? And what are the chances of getting accepted off the waitlist if applying as a business major?

Hooks: 1st generation immigrant, speak, read and write Russian fluently; 1st generation college student; large public high school; other than that I’m a white male from Connecticut, pretty typical lol

Essay: About identity crisis arising from growing up in two different cultures, thought it was very well-written and revised dozens of times

Supp: Wrote about how Key Club opened my eyes to the value of community service, thought it was fairly well-written

I was very disappointed to get waitlisted as BC was one of my top choices and I’m planning to write a letter of intent as well as sending in some achievement updates. Hopefully I’ll get lucky enough to be accepted and good luck to everyone else waiting!

P.S. Anyone willing to try and chance me for BC is welcome to do so haha

@akords- The waitlist process will begin after May 1st. I do not believe BC ranks their waitlisted students. The school in which you applied to and demographics play a definite role. Each school (CSOM, A&S, Lynch, and Nursing ) have a certain number of spots so BC will begin pulling from the waitlist according to where the availability is. Last year a number of students were admitted from the list and I believe they were notified the second week of May. It might be helpful to look at the waitlist thread from last year. Good luck. You have excellent stats. It will now depend on how many students
commit to BC.

hey yall! been following this thread closely for updates, but i have some that i’d like to share that i hope will be informative: (also, i myself have been placed on the waiting list for bc’s nursing school, so i am equally as anxious to hear back!)

last night was a BIG night for alot applicants, as many colleges sent offers of admissions to students. And fortunately, many of these colleges are schools whose applicants cross-cut with boston college, including none other than the prestigious ivies. This is good news, because many students who were accepted to bc may now commit to these esteemed colleges.

in fact, many of my classmates who had been accepted into boston college happily received good news from colleges such as princeton, tulane, cornell, harvard, penn and vanderbilt. As of now, i know that of my fifteen classmates who were accepted into bc, only three are going after receiving an offer of admission by the colleges who sent out acceptances yesterday.

if this trend is reflective of most schools in the country, it could be VERY good for those of us on the waiting list.

keep posting, its exciting to share feelings of eagerness with yall!

@dreambig101- That’s exactly the information I was looking for, thank you for the feedback!
