Boston Conservatory acceptance

My daughter was accepted into Boston Conservatory for the vocal performance program… however she did not receive any type of scholarships. We are beyond thrilled as we know some people that did not get in. We are waiting on financial aid, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it more affordable… it is an incredible opportunity and we hate to tell her no… thanks!

Wow, congratulations! That’s an amazing accomplishment!

Others might have more helpful tips, but my suggestion is to keep auditioning and see what kind of scholarship/aid offers you get from other schools. You can bring those numbers back to BoCo and tell them, honestly, that you would really like to attend, however “here are the other offers we’ve received” (and show them with proof). Ask them if they might be able to come down a bit on their rates.

There is no shame in asking for more money. BoCo wouldn’t have made an offer if they didn’t want your star, so they may be able to pull a few extra strings to get her in the program.

Best wishes and I hope she can get there!

@LadyMjolnir Great advice- Thank you!

My D is a junior MT student at BoCo. When she was accepted she received a scholarship, but we hoped for more aid, so we submitted the financial aid letters she received from all her other acceptances, which they reviewed and ultimately awarded her a little more money (every bit helps!) I believe there was a formal process for submitting this appeal. I’d check with their financial aid office to get the details. Good luck! My daughter loves BoCo. The training is remarkable.

Thanks so much- we are determined to make it happen- We will check with the financial aid office

Congratulations to your D @cory0104 ! I wouldn’t be completely determined to make BoCo happen before you know what other options she has. BoCo is an amazing school but graduating with substantial debt is going to affect her career options. Get through auditions, get all the options on the table and really look at the trade-offs each involves. Not raining on her parade, just saying the comitment to a particular school should involve more than the heart! :slight_smile: I hope it all works out.

Great advice- she is so hot and cold on schools- we go visit and she’s loves that one until she visits another. We have it narrowed down to Belmont- she has a great offer-BoCo-waiting on financial aid- and Manhattan School of Music- she has an audition on March 3rd in NYC. Appreciate the comments!
