I've seen a couple threads on this already, but I haven't seen many useful answers so I'm posting this again (sorry if I get anything wrong, first post!). I've been accepted into this program and it's supposed to be in the top 5 summer camps or something, but is it worth it? Has anyone been here previously and can you tell me what the experience was like? I'm on the edge between this and a biomedical engineering course elsewhere, and the reviews for this program seems incredibly positive. I'm hoping for some idea of what the program is like. Thank you! :)

Hey, I attended this last year between my freshman and sophomore year. The day is usually a session of instruction during the morning describing and explaining a subtopic of bioengineering, and then an afternoon session spent in the lab conducting some related labwork/experiment. The program focuses about equally on genetics and the engineering design process. Towards the end, mostly the last week, the focus becomes more oriented towards allowing each student to design their own genetically modified organism (of course, not physically, but theoretically). I really enjoyed the program. The topics discussed were really interesting and current, and the instructor was clear, engaging, and very open to student feedback; sometimes the topics lectured on were chosen by the students. The lab work was productive and made the concepts discussed seem more applicable and interesting. The independence we were given to apply the topics towards the end was also really nice, considering we were all motivated students who didn’t need much guidance. If you like bio and engineering, then you’ll definitely like this program.

Did anyone else attend this program?

I attended this program this year. It was nice because it doesn’t take up your whole summer, and you feel like you’re not just spending three weeks at school either. There was a decent amount of freedom in the program, and the other kids who came and counselors are really great. Having access to a gym is really nice too, because I have to train for cross country during the summer. As for the class itself, it’s really interesting. I feel like I have a better sense of the direction I want to take in college and beyond. My teacher for biological research was really knowledgable and gave great advice about your individual research project (which is really something you don’t have to stress about) and college majors, research, etc. Boston is a great city, too, and the program makes sure you see a lot of it. I definitely recommend this program to you!

This camp was the most fun I’ve ever had. The other students were honestly the most high quality group of people I have ever met and the concelors were really great too. As a student I felt that I was allowed a solid amount of freedom to play outside, go for runs, and just hang out with all the awesome people I met there. Though my experience at this camp was fun, educationally it wasn’t what I expected. Note that this camp is not a “research” camp, in fact the “research” project you do is the equivalent to a middle school science project. I personally was enrolled in the chemistry research program. The teacher was great and I learned a lot to prep me for AP Chemistry but once again I was expecting to be doing actual research. That being said I still had a really great time and learned a lot from this truly unique experience.

Is this program rolling admission??
Also, for the program, if you filled out the online application, do you have to wait to hear back a reply (whether you have been accepted or not) before completing the registration form?
