Hey everyone,
I have submitted my application as a transfer student to BU for Fall of 2015 on Feb 25th. At this moment, I want to create this thread for other guys who are also applying to transfer to BU this year to have discussion and share information. Let’s cheer for our dreams and get rid of that nervousness!
I’m currently a freshman at a four-year university in US, and I am applying into the CAS to major in economics.
I have received 20 credits so far, and 19 in process.
My cumulative GPA for the 1st semester of college was 4.0/4.0.
I maintain a decent job in the 2nd semester as well, in which I have all A’s on my mid-term report.
My grade for senior year of HS was like 96.5/100; for all four-year HS was around 96. (So avg GPA was like 3.9?)
I have taken some APs, some hornors and regular courses during HS.
For ECs, I am now involving in two business clubs, one athletic club and one volunteering organization. I am also in the honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta and in the Dean’s list. During high school, I had been a proctor for one year, the president of residential student council for two years, and a peer-tutor for math and chemistry. I also maintained a good performance in the indoor/outdoor track for three years.
I’d like to say that my transfer essay and BU supplement are great. I think I have demonstrated my reasons, my goals and my advantages clearly and persuasively.
In addition, I applied to BU as a senior and got rejected because I had crap SAT/ACT scores (English is actually my second language tho). However, it is good to apply as a transfer because Standardized Tests scores are not required anymore.
It is obvious that BU is so competitive and it is difficult to get in, but I still hope I can make it there. So what do you guys my chance will be?Thx.
You’re fine. I think that you’ll definitely get in. If you have any questions feel free to message me! I’m a computer science major in CAS and currently a freshman.
Thank you so much for making this thread!
Currently a freshman at a CC, 15 credits done, had a 3.6 GPA, and currently 12 are in progress; I also have many EC’s that will hopefully help my chances. The nest 12 credits should raise my overall GPA.
Thank you so much orangebanana!
Btw, those two fruits are my favorite, lol.
How do you like BU so far? I am so jealous that you were accepted last year.
You’re welcome, mislysBB!
S what do you want to study at BU?
Thank you so much @orangebanana !
Btw, those two fruits are my favorite, lol.
How do you like BU so far? I heard they have grade deflation, is that true?
You’re welcome, @mislysBB !
So which college do you apply to?
@triple2s COM, for Journalism/Public relations.
@mislysBB That’s nice, I heard of the COM at BU is a great place for Journalism! I think you can get in!
@Triple2s
BU is too big for me and I don’t really like their program for my major, so I’m trying to transfer out. Other than that, I’ve made great friends and memories. Grade deflation is just an excuse in my opinion. I haven’t experienced grade deflation but some classes that are considered “weedouts” or grade deflation classes curve the average to a C/C+ instead of the usual B/B-.
@orangebanana
Do you have any ideas which school you are planning to transfer to? I think there are more great programs for computer science on the West Coast. And thank you for easing my concern about the grade deflation. So I think BU just has a really strict grading system, compared to many other universities.
How does BU have a really strict grading system? I haven’t heard about any grade deflation for econ. I just hear a lot from pre-med and engineering majors.
@orangebanana
My friend who studies finance there told me that the school work was difficult. I actually know nothing about BU’s courses, but I think I would do well if I was accept, lol.
Hey all! I’m a hopeful BU transfer. I applied into the College of Arts and Science as a Political Science major. I currently attend a large state school and am a freshman. Here are my stats
Highschool:
-GPA: (from what I remember) around a 3.7/5.0 scale (I was top 18% of my class and primarily took honors and AP courses)
-Leadership positions: Student Body President, NHS Treasurer, Speech and Debate Co-President (also a captain for 3 years), Co-founder and VP of French Club
-ACT: 30
-Activities: Speech and Debate (all four years), student council (all four years), NHS (sophomore-senior year), French Club (junior-senior year), theatre (junior-senior year)
-Honors: two time speech and debate state finalist, speech and debate national octafinalist, district champion in speech and debate, Glory of Missouri Award recipient, school pride award recipient
My Common App essay talks about my experiences growing up as an Arab-American in a post-9/11 world and how I’ve used my negative experiences to help shape me as an individual and were influential in my social activism and involvement in my community.
College:
-GPA: 3.8 (I took 15 credits my first semester)
-Activities: Student government, leadership program, social justice clubs/orgs (I won’t name them since they have my university’s name in them).
-I’ve been heavily involved in speaking out on social justice issues that have risen on campus, nation wide, and globally. Several articles have been published quoting my statements and activism.
Hello everybody!
I sent in my application as a transfer to BU from UConn. I am a freshman this year and just finally submitted my Midterm Grade Report (all A’s so far this semester but fingers crossed…) I applied into the Health Sciences major because I’m now interested in Public Health and Health Care Management.
My credentials here are:
Student in the School of Business (undecided major within school)
3.78 GPA (5 classes), taking 5 again this semester
member of AKL honors fraternity
member in active (and successful) public interest research group
intramural sports, women in business club, etc.
High School:
3.77/4.0 GPA, honors student, scholar athlete, several mission trips, 3 year varsity letter recipient, multiple sports, saxophonist in select ensemble, mentoring program for young girls, etc. (I was very involved pretty much)
I really really hope this works out because I NEED to get out of this farmland here…I love the city!!!
Let me know what you think and I hope to see you all in Boston this Fall!
@transferyas319
Hey,
Even though I am not professional at chancing other people, I believe that you definitely have a pretty hopeful stats. And I don’t think they will consider the high school grades that heavily, so based on your college achievements, you are an awesome applicant!
Good luck, btw!
@JLM1234
Your grades look good, so do your EC’s. Besides you are studying in UConn, which is a also good University, so I think you have a great chance. However, I hope you have written an excellent transfer essay for BU. Good luck!
@Triple2s I think my essays were pretty good…I also applied to Northeastern University so my general Common App “why do you want to transfer” essay couldn’t mention specific school names. But I think I made my reasoning very clear. Also had some great recs from my professor/high school principal.
