Boston U. Class of 2027 Official Thread

Sounds like your son has some great options! GT is a really hard admit, especially OOS!

Nice assortment of CA & MA schools there.
Best of luck at impressive options.

Creatively coming up with ways to earn money.

It’s totally a numbers game. Your WL and rejections are from places with a TON of apps. Was trying to tell my kid this. Pretty sure if you and she did ED you’d have gotten in. Sucks that they fill up so much during those rounds.

DS got rejected from BU. This was his top choice, is there appeal process? Was not able to find anything
on the letter we got.

College of Arts & Sciences, Biology major

  • 3.94 UW / 4.47 W, Top 10% of my class, Test Optional
  • 6 APS, 2 DE courses, 14 honors classes
  • Dancer of 15 years
  • 7 clubs (president/founder of 3, officers in all others)
  • College Board National African American Recognition Scholar
  • College Board AP Scholar with Honors, among other decent awards
  • Attended NYLF Medicine summer program
  • Pretty good personal statement, strong LORs, toured the campus
  • Will note that I am a legacy

Acceptances: Cornell, Northeastern, Villanova, University of Miami, University of Florida, etc.
Rejections: USC :broken_heart:

Received the $25k presidential scholarship as a CB Recognition Scholar. Definitely considering BU as an option more seriously.

My daughter was waitlisted.

what is the difference between waitlist and transfer acceptance next Fall 2024

Waitlisted

4.0UW/4.7W
Undecided major
NMF
10 APs, all 4s and 5s
Focused ECs and work/volunteering (theater and music)

Accepted: Northeastern (EA), Loyola Chicago, Fordham, Drexel, U of Minnesota
Rejected: USC, U Chicago
Waiting to hear from: GWU, Stanford

Waitlisted means that if space opens up in their freshman class, BU will take a select few applicants off their waitlist and they will join other accepted students in Fall 2023.

The transfer acceptance option for next Fall 2024 is a guarantee that said student will be able to transfer to BU the following year.

So waitlist is basically “a shot” at BU for this year, while a “transfer acceptance” is a guarantee for next year.

No appeals.

Are there merit appeals?

So for the guaranteed transfer, do you need to accept that option? Pay? Can you apply for scholarships as a transfer? Gosh this process is insane! I’d like my D to have the option in case she doesn’t like where she is going
she should have done ED! She just wasn’t thinking

UC’s don’t have ED or EA options, just have to pray for getting the lottery.

My son also got the transfer option! You just click on the accept this offer link and that’s all. They say they will contact you in the fall. If you proceed, you submit transcripts in February and May. You don’t pay anything - it seems to be automatic as long as you maintain a 3.0 and stay in good standing. I don’t think there is any downside to accepting the offer. My son has some other offers he likes and is unlikely to follow through with the transfer, but you never know. This is a bird in hand should you want to transfer for whatever reason!

Son accepted to college of engineering:

4.0 UW // 1560 SAT // 35 ACT
Strong EC’s
AP Scholar with all 5’s
“Commended” national merit

He applied for the Presidential full scholarship
didn’t get any $ but it likely showed interest because it was a separate application (I think).

A phone call!? That is unique.

Accepted to COM (intended major of film)
96.57 gpa, 1510 SAT, 7 APs
Mid/weak ECs (stage manager, paid work, music/band, film summer programs, started a walking club)
2 gold medals on the National Latin Exam (lol), National Merit Commended Scholar
Went on a tour

I applied for financial aid but I did not put my SSN on the common app. They did not contact me about not recieving important financial aid info, and I had to contact them (I emailed them on March 7th), so I thought I’d gotten rejected. I did not recieve any scholarships but the aid package I recieved from them was a very pleasant surprise (basically full tuition/fees in grants) :)) (So for anyone who is anxious if they don’t contact you about missing info next year, don’t be so worried)
