Boston U or Fordham U

I got into both.
I’ll be paying the same for either one.
I am going in undecided.I don’t know what I want to major in.

I live in Queens, NY, an hour bus ride to Fordham, so I would be a commuter.
Id be dorming at BU… Went to visit bu and I loved it.
Once I graduate I plan to come back to new York unless I fall in love with Boston more and decide to stay there… But I think I’ll probably come back

Which one should I choose?
Better academically?
Better job opportunities with their title?
College experience?

Michiny, my D was in the same exact boat as you just a couple of weeks ago. She ended up choosing BU in the end after visiting during admitted student day. If you are undecided are you admitted to CGS? Thats also what my D is admitted to. I would say that both schools are pretty equal academically so you can’t go wrong with either one for that. I feel that BU is probably a little bit more prestigious as it is known all over the world and Fordham is mostly only known in the northeast. Since you are from the NYC area Boston might be a more exciting place for you to explore. The job opportunities would depend on your major. And of course BU is way bigger than Fordham, so it depends on what size school you are comfortable with. All in all with either school you can’t go wrong. Good luck!

The two schools are roughly equivalent from an academic standpoint, so I would go with BU.

You only have one life to live, and being a college student in Boston would be a good way to start out.

I am a native New Yorker who has lived in Boston.

Boston is a lot colder, however.

However, if money is a concern, then do the right thing for your parents, and go to Fordham, and be a commuter.

I’d go with BU. It has a little more prestige and that might help with jobs. Also, BU has tons of majors and clubs so you can explore different things until you figure out what you want to study.

I was considering Fordham, until I found out that Fordham has a religious influence and is located in the Bronx. These may not factors for you but they were for me.

And dude, commuting would suck. You’d miss out on a lot of stuff. With BU, you’d be surrounded by college kids and be in a great city.

If you’re paying the same for both, BU sounds like the better option, unless you don’t like the urban campus of course.

Dear CC community,… Yesterday I finally decided that I will go to Fordham, but. I’m having a second thought today, I’m very confused, desperate and crying (though I’ve never been a weakling). Not only it’s that everyone seems to be surprised I chose Fordham over BU (considering I receive no aid from both), but it’s also…Am I doing the right thing turning down BU with its international recognition and a more diverse student body (which is extremely important since I am a liberal agnostic/atheist international from Kazakhstan) and choosing Fordham mainly because of its location in NYC? It is so egoistical of me to choose a university just because I feel better there. My parents will be paying a huge amount of money they’ve been saving for years… I want them to be able to brag to others about their daughter’s university, but in Kazakhstan no one knows Fordham, while BU is more or less internationally prestigeous. Please help. damn… :’<

I recall answering this on another thread, but I will provide points on this again:

1-Very different schools: One a very large school spread over city blocks, the other a mid sized university with 2 main campuses, one lovely and beucolic with gothic buildings, the other in the heard of Manhattan.

2-One in Boston and one in New York City; pick your poison but again, very different

3-Both Fordham and BU are ranked the same at #53 on the main ranking source, US News and World Report, so in point of fact we can’t say which is better or more prestegious. It is safe to say in some circles, BU is better known while in other circles, Fodham is better known.

4-Commuting would “Suck” and both schools but living on campus would be nice

5-The international flavor of NYC is a draw and the safe, home campus of Rose Hill will give you the best of both worlds. With BU, you are surrounded by Boston; same-same.

You really can’t go wrong wiht either, but I do know kids who go to Fordham LOVE Fordham, I have not heard the same devotion about BU from kids at BU.
