So I got into Fordham CBA and Boston University SMG. I am totally confused on where to go. I’ve been doing thorough research but they both seem to have mixed reviews. Problem is, I am an international student from Singapore and I do not have the time to visit any of the campuses before the decision deadline of May 1st. Which school is better for you? Please help! answers will be well appreciated! Thank you!

If they cost the same, then here are a few factors:

SMG is actually in the heart of Boston while Fordham’s campus is in the northern Bronx, which is not Manhattan by any means. Fordham has a greener campus.

Fordham is Jesuit. Does that matter to you one way or the other.

BU has a large international student population. I don’t know about Fordham.

Three BU student organizations are the Asian Student Union, International Students Consortium, and the Chinese Students Association. I didnt see anything specific to Singapore. Maybe you can e-mail some members and ask their experiences as an international student at BU. SMG might be able to put you in touch with SMG students.

heyos! im a singaporean here too. got accepted by fordham CBA and Boston SMG also, along with a couple of other on the west coast. Which school were u from?! :)

hey i study at singapore american school. I am not singaporean in nationality or ethnicity but filipino/spanish. I have no idea where to go and i’m still caught in a dilemma. Whether international influenced school or not, i’ll be fine either way. Which school though do you guys think is better for business? specifically in the field of marketing. Thanks!

The point is to pick the school you prefer. Both programs are fine. Don’t get hung up on marginal differences.

Well one of the main problems that international students see with Fordham is the housing policies during break. Students are generally not allowed to be on campus for the breaks including the Thanksgiving and Easter breaks which are only a few days long apiece. For international students I can see how that would be an issue.

at bu you can stay over breaks but you pay a certain amount, like $100 depending on how long the break is, and you’re put up in a hotel. but if you have an apartment then you can stay during all the breaks.

Most schools now close dorms or require people to move during breaks. Costs too much to heat buildings, pay the janitors, etc. My niece is at a school in the south and she was allowed to stay - one of like 2 people in the dorm - but they shut off the heat and had no services. She was miserable.

Fordham has a much better rep, easier to get into grad schools

nsmukh, im sure your posts are appreciated, but im just wondering why you’re posting in a bu forum and plugging all schools opposing bu. did you go here and have a terrible experience?

Appears to be a clueless high school ■■■■■.

I’m never sure why but the BU part of this board attracts more non-BU connected posters than any college that I check. It’s weird. Every year we get people who transfer but who want to hang around like sad ghosts and I don’t see that elsewhere - though I obviously don’t check every college. (People transfer in and out of every school but why these people can’t realize that their experiences are not the same as everyone else’s … it’s beyond me.)

And then we get these people. Maybe they grew up or used to live somewhere around Boston and maybe that means they feel entitled to pontificate. Beats me.

But when high school kids are telling people how to get into grad school, I have to laugh.

Could somebody please explain to me the “deflation” of BU? Are the grades really deflated to keep people from transferring out? I really want to transfer out after my 2nd year but I’m pretty scared that my grades may be too low in BU because of this so-called deflation.

yo for everyone who wants to transfer out of bu, unless you got amazing financial aid, don’t come here; its too expensive and not worth it and absolutely pointless. go to a state school or community college where you can get a 4.0 and transfer somewhere after a semester.

mrc505, congratulations! You’ve won the prize for strangest question in the history of the board. The actual way they keep kids from transferring out of BU is an additive in the food.

Oh Lergnom, you crack me up
