Boston Univ 7 -year BS/MD interview

anyone receive merit aid from BU BS/MD program

I got in as well but received no mention of merit scholarships in my admissions letter. It didnā€™t say I was denied anything either. I picked BU as my first choice as National Merit Finalist as well for their National Scholars award.

I also got into Rochesterā€™s REMS, UConnā€™s Combined Admissions, Stony Brook Scholars for Medicine, and Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education. Still waiting on Northwesternā€™s HPME and Brownā€™s PLME.

Ultimately I donā€™t think Iā€™m going to go to any of them, though. Combined BS/MD programs, in terms of price, arenā€™t worth it since Iā€™m going to pay around the same for my Ivies anyways.

^If you got in both Northwesternā€™s HPME and Brownā€™s PLME, how will you choose among the three (incl. Yale) ?? Will it be primarily the cost of attendance in the UG school?

@ inycepoo. How did you get an acceptance for Stony Brook Scholars for Medicine when interviews are still being conducted, including tomorrow? The dean specifically said that all decisions will be out only by letter, and that too by end of next week? Also Sophie Davis hasnā€™t released decisions either (I called them yesterday). Just curious, since I applied to those two as well. Congrats on the other acceptances though :)

@inycepoo
what are Ivies are you into? how do you know that?

I got into the BU medical program too :)

People, do not trust what everyone says. Take it with a mound of salt. You must weed through facts

update: accepted to HPMEā€¦which is weird, because I TOTALLY bombed that quick-fire interrogation session with Dr. Green -.-

@manu101. For Sophie Davis, they called me about 2 weeks ago ā€œsuggestingā€ that should ā€œstrongly considerā€ sitting for the CUNY Math Assessment which I had previously ignored and skipped my appointment since I didnā€™t want to travel to the city to take it and have no intention of enrolling in CUNY. Perhaps my interpretation of that email is a bit far-fetched, but if it wasnā€™t a disguised likely letter then I can dance like MJ. My bad for Stony SFM - I only had my interview Friday as well; it belongs in the ā€˜yet to hear fromā€™ group. I believe the dean said by Friday the latest.

@advertisinggal. I only got into Yale EA so far. The others come out on Wednesday at 5pm. Iā€™ll have 4 tabs open (Princeton, Penn, Cornell, Brown) that afternoon while I wait for Harvardā€™s email. My fingers are crossed.

@toughyear. I donā€™t like making premature conclusions, as I didnā€™t hear from those programs yet, but right now Iā€™m definitely leaning towards not going to any one of them even if I get in. If any of those schools give me more FA than Yale, then Iā€™ll simply have a little chat with the officers there and see what I can get. That was my motivation to apply to so many schools in the first place, anyways.

@satacer. How delightful of you to share your thoughts. Thank you for the great suggestion.

hi everyone,

iā€™m a senior in high school who has already submitted the application for the SMED program at BU - itā€™s my top choice and everything. I think I have enough of the credentials to get an interview, but Iā€™m not sure how Iā€™ll do there. I do consider myself social and think I do well on interviews, but a family friend who had interviewed for the same program told me they asked questions like ā€œhow many crossroads are in nyc?ā€ to see how quickly you can think on your feet. Is there any advice you would give for the interview process, for those of you who were accepted into the SMED program?

I was not asked any questions like that, but it seems to vary highly depending on who your interviewer was. I know other SMEDs were ā€œtestedā€ in academic and social ways by their interviewers. Just be prepared to give and justify an approximation of some sort in case you get any random questions, and realize that strange or inappropriate behavior by the interviewer could be some sort of test.

Is the Trustee Scholarship considered separately or does it affect your admission into this program?

Iā€™m applying for this right now,ā€¦ Did they start giving out interview notifications yet? Also, what kind of stats do you think are needed for the interview?

I also would like to know when interview calls are given out. Since they started early with the whole thingā€¦ like 2 weeks earlyā€¦ wouldnā€™t the calls come soon?

Please use this thread for interview notifications

Has anyone gotten an interview notification for the ba/md program? when will we receive notification?

anyone still waiting for an interview? I called them today and the admissions rep said that they will be giving out replies through this week and when they get back from breakā€¦ which means donā€™t expect to hear from them until mid-january if you donā€™t get a call this week. That makes me a freak out a bit lessā€¦ And for those that did get a call, did you guys apply well before the deadline?

@exofactor, Iā€™m waiting on an interview call too. But, I might not even get one due to slightly low scoresā€¦ Depends on my luck & this yearā€™s application poolā€¦ which is definitely strong =/

I know what you mean, researcher. But I only applied to SMED and iā€™m doing SUNY in mid-january. At least you got notifcations for other programs.

I scored a 2300 on the SAT and my GPA isnā€™t bad, but I donā€™t have research experience like so many of the other applicants. I feel that iā€™m at a disadvantage. I wonder if their review of the application is done in order that they got it, or if itā€™s randomized. Fingers crossed though. =/
