Boston Univ. Summer Theatre Institute

I have had friends participate in both the Boston and uncsa programs and had nothing but positive things tosay about both. I think it heavily depends upon what in theatre you’re into. Busti has both singing and Shakespeare classes and uncsa has stage combat and circus classes. from the first post on this thread it looks like Boston helps more withcollege auditions. I think both are great programs. I live in NC and the uncsa campus and food are so awesome.

occ421: NC, wow thats a hike! I’m just from cape cod mass, like 3 hours from boston…so not far at all!
and VioletSky: Congrats on BUSTI!

sooo, I made a fbook group for BUSTI '10 so that hopefully people will join it and we can start to get to know each other…so you two should join it :)

My S was accepted and will attend! He got his letter today; he’s very excited!

My daughter has been accepted to both BUSTI and the National High School Institute theatre arts program (cherubs) at Northwestern University in Chicago. Does anyone have an opinion about which is the better program?

I don’t know which is the better program but my daughter has two friends who both went to Cherubs last summer and absolutely loved it.

I got accepted into Rutgers, UNCSA, BUSTI, and CSSSA (in CA). In order to decide between them I made a huge chart and wrote down every detail their websites listed in the broad categories of Curriculum, Housing, Outside activities, Evening activities, Campus amenities, Typical schedule, and a few others. I listed 28 line items under Curriculum; here are just a few of them: focus on process, stage combat, acting for the camera, class size, age range, Shakespeare, college auditions, final showcase, script work, mask, design/tech, singing. If the program offered that particular item, I’d put a checkmark in that column. Once I had my chart filled out, I went to CC, YouTube, and Facebook and read everything I could find. Viewed lots of pictures, read what colleges the graduates enrolled at, read their memories of the programs. I was able to find lots written about BUSTI and CSSSA, but very little about UNCSA or Rutgers. After I’d narrowed down my choice to BUSTI versus CSSSA, I let the “where I’m going to college” facebook pages tip the scales, which heavily favored BUSTI. Many of the heavyweight college theater programs were represented, which gave me a very positive impression of these BUSTI grads, whereas for CSSSA, it just wasn’t obvious that these grads were getting into or even applying to the top programs.
I have a feeling that UNCSA and Rutgers are pretty good in comparison to BUSTI, but with the lack of online postings by their participants, I just didn’t feel comfortable going in those directions.
So for those CCers out there who can give testimony to the Rutgers or UNCSA summer programs, I really hope you do. The information needs to be here on CC, in addition to FB.

Let us know which program you decide on, Violetsky!

OK, S wants to join the BUSTI '10 Facebook page but now we can’t find it…can you direct us to the page?

GreatKidsMom, I’m sorry! I guess I never said which program I dediced on, did I? I’m going to BUSTI. And I too had a little trouble locating the Facebook page. It only appeared when I typed in "BUSTI '10 " (my first guess was BUSTI 2010, which got me nothing). Half the class is already on there!

Congrats Violetsky!! I think all of you will have a fantastic summer!

Emi! You are a beautiful goddess for doing this and beating me. Haha (it’s Molly by the way)

If you’ve been accepted to BUSTI and another program, and you’re trying to choose between the two CHOOSE BUSTI!
It was one of the most life-changing decisions of my life. People came from all over the world and are all over the world today (Africa, Japan, Puerto Rico,…) The friends you meet are absolutely fantastic. Everyone got so close over the duration. In fact, one of my best friends from the program is flying in from the other side of the country to take me to prom. The professors are incredible, they really pay attention to the students and create a warm, nurturing, atmosphere.
Like Emi, if you have any questions, let me know! I CANNOT stop talking about it!

I got in!!! I’m so excited :]
