not good, unless you have super stats. GW might be a similar school
but a better aid bet.

It’s alright for need-based aid, but not generous by any stretch of the imagination. Merit aid is pretty good though, if you have the stats for it.

The university is very well known for a strong IR program, and I would assume political science as well because it’s relatively similar.

Wow really? I thought the financial aid would be good, yeah George Washington University is a private university on my list, though I do know I need to expand my list with privates.

I’ve had very good experience with need-based aid, but they combine it with your merit.

The need based aid is not great

I actually received my best finaid package from BU. Many of my friends that applied got a great package as well… I know it gets a bad rep, but if you have pretty good stats (but not necessarily super stats like Ivys or anything), it’ll definitely help. The merit combines with need. I’d completely recommend applying. I heard all the finaid horror stories, and yet my personal experience has been completely the opposite.

Yeah I’m really limited to where I can send scores, so if FASA isn’t that well I probably shouldn’t apply since I know I wouldn’t be able to afford the university… even from publics I hear they are okay or well, but for Boston University I’m just hearing it’s not good at all.

Boston University has need-aware merit-based aid. If you are great academically and not so great financially, you will get the most money. I imagine that students that are in demand (possibly URMs? I’m not sure if Boston is at a deficient) also get optimal financial aid. I would check out this chart to see where you land.

Click the link for “Probability of Receiving University Scholarships and Need-Based Grants” to find the matrix. For example, I am first column, first row, so my prospects are pretty good. Boston’s financial aid policies are surprisingly transparent, so make sure you take a look around that website.
