Boston University campus

Is it true that Boston University have been trying to extend their campus… attaching it to Boston University campus off of Charles River?
(I was looking at Boston campus and thought it was odd that their medical school wasn’t attached to it.)

Does Boston University campus feel large or small? Explain please.

No, the campus is what it is. The medical school isn’t attached because it is in the Longwood area of Boston where all the hospitals are…it wouldn’t be too appealing to have Boston Medical Center on commonwealth ave. Bu’s campus is basically all of commonwealth ave from kenmore square and into babcock street (stops on the t). it’s enormous but there are separate areas, such as west campus and south campus and warren/towers/smg area.

btw there is also a free shuttle from the undergrad campus to the med campus that runs between every 15 min and every half hour.

Boston University in my opinion is probably the best campus in the Northeast!

It is a city school so it is obviously going to feel big but once you walk back and forth to class and explore, you’ll find it quite nifty.

If you know Ann Arbor, the physical distance from the Diag to the Med School is similar to that from say COM or ENG to BU’s med center. The difference is that you’re crossing a dense part of Boston not an engorged college town.

I thought it was more of the distance from Michigan Stadium to Michigan Medical School.

I wouldn’t be too quick to say that Boston University have one of the best campuses in the Northeast…
I would probably list Harvard, and Cornell University in Ithaca, Ny.

Surprise with the size of Harvard campus, compared to a typical school that size in the North East.

It’s probably half the difference between the two starting points. I used to live on W. Liberty across from Cottage Inn.

it all depends what you like. ive never been to ithaca, but harvard is a condensed campus with a quad while BU is a city campus, and if you’re like chris2k5 and myself, then BU is the best campus. but like i said, everyone has their own preferences.

yeah im a student here and the campus is one of my favorite things about BU…besides hockey, of course.

Would anyone say walking on Boston University campus you won’t find much open land and green grass ( besides patches in front of here and there).

It’s pretty green along the river and the Boston Common isn’t far, but it’s definitely an urban campus.

I love how the green along the river has a road between it and the river. So the cars going by make it seem like waves are crashing.

btw, youre not going to see much green during the school year ANYWHERE in boston, except some of september and finals week in may, because there’s a little thing called snow…:-D

if youre looking for a rural campus with meadows, don’t choose BU lol
if you like the area, u might want BC in that case because its not in boston and is in a suburb where there is plenty of greenery

The highway is a 1950’s creation named for the guy who led the project to dam the river at the Museum of Science. That stabilized the water levels and made the lagoons, etc. possible. It’s unfortunate they put highway on both sides of the water, but the use of the land as a park didn’t have a long history and people didn’t care much about it - except for some grand plans to build islands and the like. The river was ignored for generations and I think suffered from left over bad feelings from the creation of Back Bay; the Charles had lots of mud flats and marshes - Lechmere means swamp - and these smelled bad, particularly the part that is now land.

If you are considering BU because it’s in an “urban location,” that’s one thing. If you think the Comm. Ave/Charles River area is an urban campus, you will be disappointed. They make a good impression during accepted students day and orientation, but spend two weeks here and you will know what I mean.

Especially if you live in West, the distance between points makes the campus feel large, but it really wears on me. In response to Chris2k5, have you seen Columbia?

And building off of what Lergnom is saying, much of Boston and Back Bay was built on landfill. When it rains, put on your bathing suit because there is less than no drainage.

Cliffnotes: BU’s campus is like the Bronx of Boston. Urban only in feel, inconvenient at best.

hahah someone sounds bitter

inconvenient?? you recommended in one post for freshman to live in 1019, and now you say that west campus is inconvenient…
ive never lived in the west area because i am a sargent student, but we have a free shuttle that connects the med campus, danielsen, and west, and runs every 15-30 minutes, plus the public bus transportation which runs every 15 minutes (the 57 goes straight down comm ave), plus the t itself.
and i would never compare BU to the bronx; compare roxbury or dorchester to the bronx, but BU?! and if you’re responding to chris2k5 regarding columbia being a gorgeous campus, columbia is in the heart of the bronx!
a lot of your statements are very contradictory and are very extreme

eh, it’s okay. lots of people in this thread seem to love the campus, however. quite interesting.

Columbia is not in the Bronx; it’s in upper Manhattan. The campus is truly urban but it’s also pretty darn small; almost all the classrooms you’d be in, the main freshman dorm, the student center, the underground gym (which isn’t that big) are all around a quad. The actual athletic facilities are up at the tip of the island.

NYU has a more “urban” campus; it’s a bunch of building scattered in and around that section of lower Manhattan.

To the OP: Try and visit BU to get a feel for the campus so you can make your own opinions rather than rely on others. As you can see from the posts on this thread, some ppl love it and some ppl don’t.

To everyone else: I don’t understand why you’re throwing out names of other universities in regards to chris2k5’s comment. If he thinks BU has the best campus in the Northeast, then thats his opinion. “Best” is subjective and it all depends on your preferences.

Dear God. I don’t think you’ve ever been to the Bronx.
