I’m applying to BU this fall. My GPA and ACT scores are at the bottom of the range for the School of Arts and Sciences. I’ve read that admissions may feel you’re a better fit for the College of General Studies, and will offer you a spot there if your numbers aren’t quite there. My question is, would I be better off waiting for them to offer and thus taking a chance that they won’t, or just directly applying to CGS?
You can apply to CAS, but also there is a spot on your application where you can say you would like to be considered for CGS (if they dont take you for CAS) and the admission decision for either happens at the same time so there is no waiting. If you want to be in CAS, I would apply this way because if you apply only to CGS and get in you are “stuck” there. CGS isnt like a waitlist thing where you get rejected from CAS but they put you on a list and mull it over (unless of course you officially were waitlisted to BU). At least, thats not how it was 2 or 3 years ago.
If you enroll in CGS you must complete the full two year CGS program before moving to CAS. You cannot transfer internally after first year in CGS.
