Boston University ED 2017 applicants stats and Results

Anybody applying to Early Decision at Boston University class of 2017 Fall Admission, Let’s post stats and results …

Applying ED to College of Engineering BME
SAT I: 1940
GPA: 3.67 w

D applied. Will put stats and results on Dec 15th  Good Luck everyone!!

Did anybody get asked to submit their senior year grades? Good or bad sign?

I wasn’t asked to send senior grades, but I sent them anyway. I hope it’s a good sign though!

I’m from Maryland, applied ED to CAS as a major in Chemistry and an interest in Pre-Vet  I was so anxious for December to come because it’s the month of decisions! I know I’m not the only one who’s been doing a countdown  Hopefully we hear back earlier than December 15th, though! Last year they heard on the 12th and I think the year before they heard on the 10th.

Unweighted GPA: 3.58
Weighted GPA: 4.23
ACT: 28

Good luck to everyone, I hope we all get to go to our dream school!

Oh and I was asked to send senior grades, but I thought everyone was supposed to…?

Applied ED to SMG

GPA: 3.2 uw (Freshman year is killing me)
SAT: 1900
ACT: 26

I probably won’t get in, but it was still worth applying!

Applied for Early Decision to Sargent College at BU as a Nutrition Major.

GPA: 3.24 (weighted)
SAT: 2060/2400, 1260/1600

Hmm…the more I look into it, the more I’m doubting my acceptance into BU.

Everyone is directed to send in senior grades. I think it is their way of reminding you that you shouldn’t sluff off after acceptance/deferral/rejection.

My friend was not asked to submit senior grades…he either is in for sure or rejected for sure. Btw, applicant link will be down from midnight until 8am tomorrow morning. Perhaps our decisions will be out? I remember when I was on my tour the lady said decisions would be coming out as soon as Dec. 1st

@onebefree I saw that too and was thinking the same thing, but I was reading some of the ED forums from last year (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-university/1253684-boston-university-class-2016-ed-thread-5.html</a>) and apparently it says that every weekend :/

Parent here…if you really want to go to BU, and you get deferred ED (which happened quite a bit and to my daughter in 12/2010, I strongly recommend that you write a letter and attach a recommendation from someone outside the Common App system. That’s what she did (with great SATs and middlling GPA) and it worked! She wrote a letter saying something like

 • thank you for considering me - BU is still my first choice and I will remain enthusiastic about possible admission - look forward to your decision in March
 • since I have placed my application, I have…
 • the common app only reflects recommendations from the ECs inside the school setting. I continue to be heaviliy involved in outside ECs, and have attached a recommendation from …

It worked - she got in, and is ecstatically happy! Good luck to all of you!

I applied to the school of Hospitality ED, SAT: 1950
GPA UW: 3.54
W: 3.81
Only 2 more weeks!

Does the email on the 15th tell you your decision or do you hav to go to Applicant Link to find out?

2.5 gpa and 1770 SAT … I have a really colorful story as to why my stats are so low. Without giving away too much info, I was physically/verbally abused by my dad (divorced parents straight from Africa) and moved out my junior year while dealing with depression caused by this (in therapy for a few months now). I’m talking to the assistant coach for rowing and my state’s admissions director so maybe that’ll help a bit. I also payed for myself to study abroad in France as well as take classes for a month of the summer at Georgetown so maybe that will help too.

I applied ED to CGS with the hope of going on to study French in CAS.

…After looking at all of your stats, though, I’m not optimistic. :frowning: It’s really sad considering this is my dream school athletically and academically.

1930 SAT
32 ACT
~3.8 GPA

applied ED to CAS.
soooo anxious!!

French applicant: Don"t really know my GPA maybe 3.5 because its not the same grading system in france. 1850 SAT

Do you guys think that, because the deadline to submit the application was pushed back to November 15th, we’ll hear our decision exactly on December 15th? I hope not! I can’t be the only one who’s getting super impatient and antsy, right? ;)

Swimmie,
No matter whether you get in or not, you are amazing. Remember that - you have made lemonade out of lemons. GREAT that you braved therapy and exercise to keep your stress down! Whether you get into one college or another, you have the skills to soar.

That said, you are right in deducing that your raw scores are low for BU’s CGS program. However, I do want to share a couple of things that I have noticed after attending Open House and Parent Orientation. First, contrary to some casual observers, CGS coursework is just as demanding as other schools. Professors have commented to DD, who is a sophomore, that CGS students are better prepared in many cases for the rigors of upper division, especially writing. The reason is that there is a huge emphasis on turning technically competent writing learned in high school to a well reasoned, persuasive piece. It is a lot easier to make progress in writing when your professor analyzes 8 essays over a semester for 25 people than one piece and a bunch of multiple choice scantroned tests. Second, many people who are admitted to CGS are in your shoes - smart, motivated, but with a history of some unusual challenge. At our table, one student had had cancer, one serious family change and chaos, and one significant ADHD. Our theory is that they push applications over to CGS when they see the spark they want and know the potential is high, but they are a bit “out of the box.” So hang in there - you never know!!!
