Alright let’s get it started. I was curious about if BU was generous financially. I had not received any financial merit or grants, so is it even worth going to the financial offices and appealing?
I have a pretty low EFC (about $5,000 on FAFSA, not sure with CSS) and I got about $46,000. $8,500 of that is in loans. My friend is pretty low income and got like $65,000 in aid but I’m not sure how much of that is loans. Idk if my stats and stuff weighed in on that, but I had a 31 ACT, a 3.7 UW gpa, and some good ECs.
I also showed strong interest. I visited campus and had a pretty good supplement essay (sounded like I was borderline stalking BU lol).
@Reallycoolshoes What colleges within BU were you and your friend accepted to? I got into COM
Both of us were CAS.
Do they tell you on the website if you received a scholarship? Or will they mail that information/tell you later?
Posted this on the decisions thread earlier but this thread seems more appropriate, sorry for those who are reading it twice. Does anyone know if BU will try and match or up their offer on $ if you show offers you received from other schools? Nicolezzz13 if you look on your Applicant Link page under the decisions folder when you click it look for a Financial Assistance Decision folder. Good Luck.
Efc 0 and bu expects me to pay 28k out of pocket.
@beczhou that’s so weird. My efc is 23,000 and I have to pay around 26k out of pocket
are bu grants renewable for all four years?
Do any of you think it’s worth appealing financial aid decisions?
The best place to get that answer is from BU, but, almost always, grants are not renewable. Merit scholarships are.
Grants vary every year, based upon your FAFSA and CSS Profile from the previous tax year.
Also, your EFC is a number generated by the federal government, not by the school. It is based on a small amount of information. The Profile considers every detail, and that is how the private schools calculate their need offers. Usually there is some reason behind the decisions, but based on the above awards, some seem to make no sense.
It’s a bit like the overall admissions process. There are many decisions that are completely baffling and seem unfair.
But, there is a reason for everything. Sometimes getting a low financial award steers you to a different school, and things work out better in the end!
