Boston University Hockey

Anyone concerned about our goaltending after seeing the two games our Terriers played in this past weekend in Alaska? Gillespe and Bennett were both pretty terrible. In the first game, BU surrendered three goals in a very short span in the third period to lose a shocker. Next game, gave up the tying goal with 30 seconds left. The offense seems to be working well thus far, but I am pertty concerned that, without John Curry, we are screwed against the high power offenses. Oh well, lets hope one of these goalies can step it up. Got my tickets for Friday. Anyone else pumped for the beginning of TERRIER HOCKEY!?

S bought me a ticket for Friday of Parents Weekend. In the late 60s-early 70s we had NY Rangers season tickets and I try to get to a few Sharks games every year.

omg non-student tickets were sold out, and my family and i are die-hard hockey fans (sorry devilsrule, we're flyers fans, and theyre gonna make a comeback, and devils suck :-P). but yea, SO excited for terrier hockey! i hope our goalies come through though! :-( i miss curry

Lol I'd say something about the Flyers, but after what I saw last season, I think I'll just keep my mouth shut and snicker. When I saw a whole row of Flyers fans in Jersey clapping in full force to "If You Know the Flyers Suck Clap Your Hands...", it made me laugh. Don't worry, Flyers will be good. Devils are the ones who need to worry with the D they have.

Yeah, all non-student tix have been sold out for awhile now. Then again, most games sell out. Opening night is a given. For anyone who doesn't have tix (non-students), you can always check on E-Bay. I'm sure there must be some reasonably priced tix there. Then again, for BU BC games, people sell tickets on ebay for over 100 a piece. To all those going, have a great time. Lets hope our goalies can hold it together and Gryba decides not to spend the whole season in the penalty box.

Btw, for those who don't know, BU will be playing Cornell U at Madison Square Garden in NYC on November 24th, during the Thanksgiving break. All BU fans who live in the NY-NJ area should def come and cheer on the team in NY.

I don't know if the office in charge of Parents Weekend still has tickets available. They were $15/ticket.

I highly doubt they have any $15 parents tickets left. My friend's parents bought tickets over a week ago and all that was left were standing room only tickets. Maybe they have some of those still available. It is worth checking out.

Our goalie situation is awful. Miss ya Curry :/

Yeah, thats the biggest downside of college hockey. Your best players are guaranteed to be gone after at most 4 years. Good goaltending is especially hard to come by. It is rare that a walkon becomes as good as Curry did and becomes the key component of the team. Now that he is gone, one of our 2 really need to step it up. I really don't want a season's worth of giving up 4-5 goals a game. I love my Terriers and I love gamenights at Agganis, but that would just be too much to take. O looks good, so lets see what happens

Really poor showing for BU. Gillespie looked pretty good in periods 1 and 2, and then he just collapsed, giving up 3 goals to take away any chance of evening up the game. UNH showed exactly why they are ranked so high. They played fast and fluid hockey. And who saw James vanRiemsdyk with that beautiful breakaway goal to make the score 4-1? There is a reason why that kid was the #2 pick in the NHL draft. Wow. So yeah, we are in for a long season. Oh well, still gotta cheer on the Terriers.

We sat about 5 rows up right in front of the 4th goal. S said this is not a basketball game; you should be able to go around an opponent to the net. UNH have great skaters, lots of speed. I thought BU played pretty well in period 2.

We played pretty awful overall. Glad the Flyers got Reemer :)

Another two losses for the Terriers. Completely winless thus far because of the horrific goaltending (or lack of). This team is obviously going nowhere this year. It isn't the kind of situation that a team can just turn around from. It is like playing with an empty net every night. I almost don't even want to go to the games. Of course I will always be there to support the team, but heres hoping that some super frosh comes to save the day next year.

I was on the Michigan trip and had a ton of fun. We're awful though. Elliot from CSTV wrote an excellent article on the trip though. <a href="http://slog.cstv.com/rinkrat/2007/10/%5B/url%5D">http://slog.cstv.com/rinkrat/2007/10/</a></p>

EDIT: Bennett, for the most part, played fine and pretty much well enough to win with good offense. Karson looked like utter crap though.

Yeah, I really hope they bench Gillespie for awhile. Bennett certainly has looked better. Glad the Michigan trip was fun. Wish I could have gone, regardless of how bad we look. Tonight against Providence, hopefully win number 1!

Trying to go to PTown tonight, but my friends not picking the phone up...

YEAH! Finally a win! And Gillespie wasn't in net. Coincidence? I think not. At least we know who we will see in goal on Saturday. Hopefully Bennett can keep up his strong play into games with good teams. Having U-Mass Lowell next gives us another chance to rack up another quick win.

Considering our track record against UML, I'd be worried...

Wow, what a crazy game at Agganis tonight! Gillespie was just as bad as ever, but boy did our fortunes change after Bennett took over. After that one PP goal, we just went on an offensive tear. It was nice to see the offense just go crazy out there. Most goals ever scored at a game in Agganis. Don't look now, but we are only two points out of the lead in hockey east. Luckily, most of the those losses are outside of our league, which helps. I think we have the potential to be a much better team that we have seen so far. Obviously we should start Bennett, and hopefully our O can carry us like it did tonight.

I had such an amazing time. What an emotional roller coaster haha. I couldnt believe that game...

Who else had the plesure of being at the Garden for our victory over Cornell? Wow, what a game! For those who couldn't go, I will give you a recap. It was esentially a Cornell home game, with about 5 times as many Cornell fans as BU fans. The place was sold out, over 18,000 kids there screaming for their school. BU scored 2 goals in an 18 second span to shut up the Cornell fans real fast. We added another a few mintues later to make it 3-0 after one. Long story short, we held on for the 6-3 win in an amazing game. They even had Mike Eruzione, Jack O'Callahan, and Dave Silk come onto the ice in between periods!! The whole place starts chanting USA! USA! It was unbelievable. For those of you who go to BU and don't know who those players are (if so then you should be ashamed!) they were on the 1980 Olympic team that defeated the Soviets and won the gold medal in the greatest moment in sports history. So we got to march out of the greatest arena in the world singing our songs and chants as loud as we could. My lungs are shot and hopefully my voice is back by the next BU game. What a night! Who else got to go and has some story to tell?
