Boston University or Rutgers for computer science?

Hey Guys,

I live in NJ and got into both BU and Rutgers for computer science. BU is giving me 38,000 a year in grants so it would cost me around 30,000. Rutgers would cost me around 23,000. Which one would you guys recommend in terms of the major, campus quality, campus life, and university overall? I am only 20 minutes away from Rutgers so I feel more comfortable going there, but would go to BU if it is the overall better college.

Rutgers is preferable imo.

@knightOne I would disagree. Boston University is considered a more prestigious institution. Boston is an excellent city and a lot of internships are there. Rutgers is an excellent school, but since it is not in a city like Boston, I would choose BU.

Not even close. I graduated from BU CS and I have been a hiring employer for many years, in NYC.

Classes in CS itself would be similar at most colleges, just a matter of how challenging.
But the lifestyle if different. Boston is a great place to attend college, unless you are a suburbanite who hates subways etc. Career options for internships are very accessible in Boston area.

As far as prestige, BU is a world class university. Many of my profs had PhDs from Harvard and MIT.
There is no comparison as an overall university with lots to offer, especially if you change your mind and want to change majors (they have everything).

BU is one of the few schools that can offer 4 year housing on campus.
If you are considering living at home for cost and/or social reasons, I would stick with Rutgers,
but I can’t think of any other reason to turn down BU.
