Boston University or University of Southern California

Hi All,

I was recently admitted into BU’s Film and TV program as a presidential scholar. However, I was also admitted into Annenberg School of Communications at USC (my top choice) as a Spring admit. With that said, I would love to attend USC but I am not sure if the Spring admission is worth it.

Studying abroad would be great, but I am afraid of missing out on the traditional freshmen fall experience. Furthermore, BU is much closer to home (and probably cheaper because USC hasn’t offered merit – FA comes out in two weeks). However, USC is ranked higher for communications and consistently has students interning for huge TV networks in the LA area. With that said, Boston isn’t too bad of an area, and I can study at the BU in LA program which gives many students at BU jobs in LA.

I am just looking for the best opportunity for my future in the television industry and am trying to make sense of all this… Money, location, internship opportunities, etc…

Thanks.

First wait to see the financial packages.

Then if you do prefer USC see what type of program they have in place to integrate people who start second semester into the school when they get to campus. My friend’s D had that type of acceptance with her first choice school and she went abroad with a school-based program her first semester. It worked out fine for her – she met people on the abroad program that she roomed with when they all got back to campus – not ideal, but she is glad she did it and went to that college. Your willingness to go this route would largely depend on if you have a strong preference for USC over BU.
