Boston University or University of Washington

ive been accepted into both school...i am a resident of washington...
just wondering if you folk can lead me to the better school...now i know UW ranked higher...but i think BU has a better name...so if you guys can help me make a decision, that would be great!

and i plan on...or want to major in pre-law of political science...thanks

Does cost factor into your decision? Not only tuition, room and board, but airfare. Do you want to live on a different coast in college? UW has Pac 10 sports; BU is not sports-crazy like BC, although it does field many varsity teams, with the notable exception of football.

Who told you BU has a better name than the University of Washington? BU is a respected university, but so is the University of Washington. I would recommend UDub, especially considering the fact that it will cost you like $30,000/year less!

By the way, since you are interested in Law schools, check out where some of the students at those top law schools went to college. Remember that BU will have a natural advantage because it is located in the East Coast and those Law schools happen to be located in the East Coast. I am pretty sure if we looked at the figures of Western Law schools (Stanford, Cal-Boalt Hall, UCLA, USC etc...), UDub would have the advantage.

<a href="http://www.law.virginia.edu/home2002/html/prospectives/class08.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.law.virginia.edu/home2002/html/prospectives/class08.htm</a></p>

As you can see, BU doesn't exactly do better than UDub. And personally, I find Washington's campus a little more collegiate and lively than BU's campus.

They are both big schools in cool cities. If you want a change, cuturally and socially, I'd say go to BU provided it does not tax your familys resources.

If cost is an issue, I'd go to UDub.

Don't worry overly much about the reputation. UW tends to have a better name.

They are both good schools. I'd visit and see where you feel at home.

well, i know cost is a thing, but also, i do want to i guess..."explore" out of washington...also i know UW is a i guess better school, but wouldnt it make sense to do better or good at a not as academically better school but with a good name, and go to a good law school? i dunno, i can still use some input...

BU is NOT a better name in any way.

Both are approximately the same academically.

Have you received your financial aid package from BU??
BU is a great school, but it is NOT better than UWashington, and I cannot see paying the astronomical cost to attend BU over Washington, unless you
have a merit scholarship or significant financial aid.

The only exception would be if you wanted to major in one of BU's specialialties, like communications, broadcast journalism, etc...

Washington.

I say BU. It's in Boston which is awesome for a college student. The atmosphere is great and it's good to try something new.

UDub. Not even close. They are totally equal academically and UW is cheaper.

Choose the UW, then apply for the Student Exchange program for your junior year if you're still curious about New England. While I wouldn't recommend U of Massachusetts-Boston because it has no dorms, and there are no other Boston city colleges in the program, both U of Massachusetts-Amherst and U of Rhode Island participate. Therefore, when you're not studying, Boston is a relatively short drive or bus ride away.

UDub most definitely, save your money for grad school.

I am also deciding between these two - even with out of state tuition - UW is cheaper - but the class size is so huge - and the weather so wet. the UW campus is so nice - but so is Fenway. What do you all think? My UC choices are not my preferred (Davis/SantaCruz) so I need help deciding.

I heard BU has no real campus or community -Is this true?
