I am so confused. I got into the Boston London Program which I didn’t realize exactly what I was signing up for when I clicked it. I feel like it’s going to be so hard to make friends since it starts in January. I love the school but I’m scared to go into this program because I feel as though it could ruin my undergraduate experience since everyone will already have friend groups by the time I get there. I’m also confused about if I am locked in for Questrom for Junior and Senior Year.

@decrou There will be 600 entering students in the CGS program all entering on January. For whatever reason BU did not feel you were qualified for Questrom at this time. Or BU may have felt that you were using them as a safety school and if you decide not to attend that does not affect their yield. If you take the proper electives and maintain a 2.0 GPA you will be able to transfer to Questrom after completing the 2 year CGS program.

“After CGS, do I have to re-apply into one of the nine degree-granting colleges at BU?
No, you have guaranteed continuation into one of the nine degree-granting schools or colleges at BU. When you complete CGS with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and have taken appropriate electives, you simply declare your major(s) for the junior year.”
You cannot appeal to have your CGS status changed at this time.
For those accepted to CGS-- you “applied” to CGS by simply checking the box on the Common App that you would be willing to be considered for CGS if you weren’t being accepted into the college you were applying to (CAS, SAR, Questrom, etc). You probably didn’t even realized you were doing it.
It is a huge program (~1200 freshman and sophomores) and it is probably easier to make friends because you are all in it together. If your grades are acceptable (I think >2.0) then you can “transfer” to the BU college of choice after 2 years. They fairly recently added the London aspect so it is now an automatic study abroad opportunity.
If you go to the BU CGS website it explains a lot (bu.edu/cgs)
@cp2019 I have no clue what the acceptance is for this program but I’m assuming its higher since it wasn’t my first choice and I can’t change to my first choice of going in during September. I’m actually so annoyed about this decision if I knew exactly what I was signing up for when I clicked that button I wouldn’t have signed up for this. I’m scared about how this will affect my experience at BU.
Accepted to Questrom
Congrats to everyone who was accepted, and if you were waitlisted or denied just know that you will find the right place for you, so hold your head up high! I’m still waiting to hear back from my last three schools, and I know that the college process can be so stressful but we’re nearing the end now. I am wishing everyone the best luck!
Check out the thread on admission stats for this year. They accepted less people and will transfer a lot more to lower their acceptance rate… that’s why some people got guaranteed transfer and everyone was told to transfer after a year, they want high transfer numbers so they can move up in ranking. pretty scummy if you ask me, but it’s part of the game. Northeastern has been doing this, too- all the Boston area schools are competing for top rankings
Rejected:( Not surprised though bc my stats are below BU’s average but I worked on the essays for a while and continually revised them to make 'em my best so I am disappointed
Just to clarify, I did not select CGS as an option. My only option was CAS. So I just found out that my college is the College of Arts and Sciences as demonstrated in my acceptance letter. It says:-
‘Congratulations! On behalf of the Board of Admissions, I am excited to welcome you to the Boston University Class of 2023. You have been admitted to the College of Arts & Sciences.’
I emailed the Admissions office. I also asked my school counsellor. She said that it is specified that the CGS FEE structure is only for the summer program to London. Nowhere else is there any reference to CGS on the entire portal.
